I had ta On November 12, 2019, I purchased a used vehicle for my daughter from Central Florida Toyota. We initially met with Alex Quiliche in sales. I had talked to him earlier in the day to confirm the vehicle we were interested in was still available since we would be driving two hours to get there. When we arrived he said he would get the vehicle and didn’t return for 20 minutes (the lot is not that big). While we were inspecting the car, he told us all fluids in the car had been replaced and it was checked for safety, mechanical and electrical issues. He said that was done for all of their vehicles even used cars. I noticed that there were 2 battery charges in the trunk and asked if there was a problem with the battery – he said no that it was good. (The car was running when we came out to see it. My daughter turned it off and it did start right back up.) The windshield washer fluid did not spray and my daughter said that could be a deal breaker (it didn’t work on her last car either), but Alex said it worked, and would be filled when they filled up the gas tank if we bought the car. We decided to buy the car and Alex said he had another customer waiting so DJ Salkov would finish up the paperwork. When we were finishing up, we asked DJ about a second key. He said Alex was getting it from the prior owner and would send it to us. When my daughter got in to drive home, the gas tank was not full. She checked the windshield washer and it was not working. DJ took it to the service department and filled both. When he came back he said the service guy told him the sprayer was still not working, but the pump was good and there was air coming from the nozzles so there was probably a little debris in the hoses and she should just turn on the sprayer a few times and it would clear. My daughter tried the sprayer while we drove to dinner a few miles away. The sprayer didn’t work. I called DJ from the restaurant. He said the service department was closed, so he would call me the next day. The next morning the battery barely started. We took it to an auto store to have it tested. I was standing next to the guy when he was going to check it and the battery cables weren’t attached to the battery – they were just sitting on the posts. He tightened the cables and told my daughter to drive it around to see if the battery would charge. It did not and we had to buy a new battery. While at the auto store I also had him check the windshield washer sprayer. He said the pump was not working. I called DJ and he said he would talk to a manager about the battery and pump, and ask Alex about the key (He said Alex had to call the prior owner about the key because he spoke Spanish). I then took the car to a local mechanic to double check the pump - it was dead. He also said it did not look like any fluids had been changed. He said I should ask for the service report. I called the Central Florida Toyota Service department and was told there was no service report – no work had been done on the car. I did not get a call back from DJ so I called Alex and he said there was no extra key. He said I would need to talk to DJ about the other problems. I called DJ and was told he would talk to his manager and get back to me. No one called back. I called several times over a week trying to reach a manager and was finally referred to Maggie, a customer service manager. She said she would have the sales manager, Vinnie Machado, call me. Vinnie did call and said they would reimburse me for the battery and he would talk to sales about the windshield washer pump. He didn’t think they would do anything about fluids. Vinnie called four days later and said they would cover the battery but nothing else. I was told that the car was priced taking into account the condition, and since it was sold “As Is” nothing else would be covered even though we were clearly lied to about the washer pump and fluids. Advised him I would be filing a complaint with Toyota, which I did. They just referred me back to the dealership. I did get reimbursed for the battery, but have since paid $170 to get the pump replaced, still need to buy a second key, and have estimates of at least another $700 for fluids to be replaced. Do not trust the sales staff at this dealership. Make sure you take the car to a trusted mechanic before purchasing a used car. More
