I met about six or seven employees here over the course of a few different visits where I ultimately purchased a new vehicle. In addition to those employees, there was another employee, "Bryan," who I only dealt with remotely via tel,, text, email. With respect to three or four of the employees, they were brief interactions and were not the principle individuals I dealt with, and these three or four were friendly and professional. By way of background, I had done my research, and had reached out to about a dozen dealers at the outset requesting their "out the door" price on a particular, new 2020 Jeep model and trim level. The employee here who I had been dealing with remotely via email, fax and telephone did not provide me accurate information. I had spoken to him on the phone and he assured me, not once, not twice, but three times that the price he was quoting me on this particular vehicle was "out the door" meaning it includes all fees and taxes. (Knowing the price he was offering was by far the best I had been offered, I wanted to confirm and re-confirm the price before driving the hour on a weeknight to accept this offer.) This employee had told me that he was looking at a document that his boss had left him on this vehicle, and that it was indeed an "out the door" price. I then asked him what the pre-sales tax price was, and he did the calculations on the phone and quoted me a price that was his "out the door" price minus the 6.25 percent MA sales tax. It was not until I got to the dealership that I was told otherwise. I even texted him while I was there meeting with reps "Jamar" and "Jon" and wrote that there is a problem here, that the the price he offered me was not being honored. He did not reply to my text that night nor any night since. He had also told me that he sent me an email earlier in the day and that he should have realized I may not have received it (I didn't) as they were having issues with their outgoing email all day. Suffice to say, I am not so sure these were mistakes and I feel as though I was likely purposely mislead to entice me to visit their dealership, which I noticed was the goal of just about every dealership I dealt with during this process. In any event, I did get a decent price on the vehicle, but my experience here was mixed. The sales manager Jon I only met briefly, and I really can't say anything negative about him. But for a mistake on my part equating his MSRP vehicle with another dealer's MSRP vehicle, I would have realized that his "out the door" counteroffer, while still the best I had received to date, did not beat this other dealer's by as much as I had mistakenly thought, and I would have negotiated further before accepting his offer. I enjoyed meeting the knowledgeable business manager, Greg Bouchard, who had worked his way up in the business from the bottom for decades. I told him I respected that, and his approach. He informed that he is always honest with people and that, given social media these days, it also does not benefit a business to not treat people fairly and honestly. I agreed, reiterated my respect for him and some others at this dealership, but then did begin to tell him about how I was provided false information. I could tell he was not overly comfortable about hearing this and he quickly offered me a couple of free oil changes (I had told him that the other dealership in play had offered me some, and that but for my mixup with the MSRPs that I would not have so easily accepted this dealership's offer and would have gone back to the other dealership if I had realized my mistake and if further negotiations with this dealership - which I would have initiated - had not worked out.) There's more details I could go into but I'll spare you all that. I wish I could feel great about my experience here, but I don't. That said, I do feel good about most of the people I met here, and I only met some of them. Management needs to step up to make sure these kind of "mistakes" are not repeated in the future. Then again, it could be that it is MANAGEMENT that sanctions this, perhaps even orchestrates it. I can't prove it, and I only know what happened in my case, but I do know that I never received an apology from anyone; If I had, I probably would not be spending my time writing all this. One final note: I felt bad that the other dealership that had been honest with me missed out on the deal, so much so that I wrote them a letter enclosing $100 for a Christmas/Holiday lunch for the five of them that I had dealt with there on Hallet Street in Dorchester. We were thisclose to signing when I got an email from Raynham about their not-so-honest offer which would have saved me close to two thousand dollars. As it turned out, it was too good to be true. Lesson learned. Thanks for reading. More
