Filled out a TrueCar inquiry about a 2021 Kia Seltos S AWD 2.0l CVT (specifically with heated seats and AWD) on June 5, 2021. Received a call from a nice lady at Gary Lang saying that they did not have th AWD 2.0l CVT (specifically with heated seats and AWD) on June 5, 2021. Received a call from a nice lady at Gary Lang saying that they did not have the car on site (the exact match to the TrueCar inquiry), but that it was in transit and would be delivered in about a week. Ive had nothing but bad experiences with GL in the past and was skeptical about doing business with them, but they were offering 3,400 off MSRP and I was willing to do business since their price was better. I told her that my wife and I wanted to purchase the car and she nicely suggested that we come in on Monday June 7 at 10am and place a $500 deposit on the vehicle, which would not allow any one else to look at the car before us. When we arrived on the 7th, we met with Brandon, who was nice. Nicer than anyone else I had ever dealt with at this stealership. I told him upfront we wanted to put the down payment on the vehicle. He said he'd go check with the manager. When he came back he said that the managers were in a meeting and had just told him they no longer accept deposits on cars. Mighty convenient I might add. His reasoning was that the dealership was paying $20,000 in fees for out-of-state deposit payers. He did say though that the car was on the lot, So he brought it around. It was still wrapped for transport and not available for sale, according to him. We were tight on time and wouldn't be able to purchase the car that day, but he said the earliest the car could be sold was the following morning. We agreed that we would come back and purchase the next morning with him. To make a long story short, we were paying cash for the full amount of the car and needed to get a bankers check. I sent several text messages to Brandon about the final price of the car with no response. Phone calls went unanswered as well. He finally texted me back saying the unsellable car was just sold. I was pretty pissed. I should have listened to my gut and never set foot in the dealership. But, all was not lost. The following week we put an out-of-state $500 down payment on the exact same car from a Kia dealership in Racine. We ended up buying the car there and could not be happier with their customer service. Then mentioned its not uncommon for them to receive customers from GL who had similar experiences with the down payment. They explained its a game to get you to purchase the vehicle that day. Deceptive sales practices at the least. It will be my life's mission to desuade anyone from setting foot in that stealership. More
I really liked how upfront everyone is.
