Worth the drive from Albuquerque, El Paso, Tucson Searching with my college-aged daughter for used cars in ABQ, an ad for a new one at Borman seemed too good to be true. They were advertising an Elan Searching with my college-aged daughter for used cars in ABQ, an ad for a new one at Borman seemed too good to be true. They were advertising an Elantra for $600 less than I paid for a 2008 Elantra with a manual transmission. Since I sold that car it turns out I didn't qualify for the $500 'owner' rebate. Fair enough, but that was still $100 cheaper for a car with automatic transmission, Bluetooth, more airbags, etc. Was it a Bait and Switch? Long story short - financing was arranged and everything worked out on e-mail and telephone was exactly as promised after a 3 hour drive to Las Cruces. We did buy some insurance, but it was not a high pressure experience and all was explained with a clear value proposition that we could take or leave. When I add up the expensive components in a car, I honestly do not know how Hyundai can make a car for that price. Perhaps they only can this year since everyone wants an SUV, but this car will be around sipping fuel during the next gas crises and the one after that. My daughter loves her car. Very good experience. I never gave the local guys a chance - they were advertising used rent-a-cars for more than my daughter paid for her shiny new car - and I know that is just where the hassle would start. More
