She respected that I had already done my research on the car that I wanted. Found the perfect car for me (after research and driving 30 minutes to the dealer) with no pressure. She was great! Finance dept took a long time. I am not sure why everything took 3 hours when I already researched my car and just needed to test drive it. I was preapproved through my credit union and didn't need any financing through them. Sam was friendly; however, was very slow. He kept stopping to talk about other things after I had already waited over an hour and a half to see him. He had done nothing at that point and I was the only customer on the lot. He took forever to do the paperwork and got upset and rude when I didn't want to buy the extra warranty. He pushed for several minutes for me to run my credit to see if I could get a better interest rate through them. When I reluctantly agreed, he lolly gagged about processing the application, so I stuck to my original decision and said never mind. This coming after he stated my application would take a day or two to process. I just wanted my car. As soon as I said I didn't want to run my credit (after he added my personal information needed to run a credit check) he was very quick to agree I was better off with my credit union (without even running it). So why did he waste my time? Then he went on to trying to sell the warranty (I have already learned this lesson the hard way) and I refused so he instantly became rude. If I buy another car there I will not work with him. More
Is Nick a bad apple, or a symptom of rotten sales culture? I've always heard good things about Carr, and it sounds like they are awesome with smooth sales when people don't question price at all. Their cha I've always heard good things about Carr, and it sounds like they are awesome with smooth sales when people don't question price at all. Their chat and email systems were a little disorganized (I had to repeat info multiple times in emails). I am buying from out of state so this was all remote. After a few days I either called or Denny called me. He was on top of it right away and took care of things quickly and professionally. At some point I called to make a cash offer and Denny was "unavailable" (they said out of the office) and they sent me to Nick. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but my interactions with Nick and the fact that he kept repeating he's the sales manager and has worked there for almost 20 years left me questioning their operation. Is Nick their "closer"? Good lord, I hope not. That guy had a weird ego thing from the get go, saying he's Denny's boss so he can make any deal Denny could, he had full authority, etc. He took everything personally and had a stank attitude; he even attempted to falsely represent himself as the owner, until I asked him about 5 times directly if he was the owner of the dealership. When I pushed for Nick's supervisor/boss/superior's name/phone number, he gave me xx info (name of a manager in another department). I get that tensions are high everywhere right now due to the pandemic - but Nick shouldn't be interfacing with customers if he can't handle a conversation about price without reading into haggling as a significant personal affront. At first I thought he was just using anger and a "screw you" attitude as a tactic so I as a female would just shut up and take the sticker price. It became pretty clear after a while his emotions were driving the sale. It seemed to really tick him off that I'd done my research and he had zero actual reasons to support his price (vs. mine). In the end, Nick refused to even consider/check on a small service (safety) item I requested to seal this cash deal. That wasn't offensive to me per se, and maybe he had another deal on the line (though if he did I'm not sure why he didn't mention that to support his price argument), but I was a little surprised he was willing to let a cash offer walk out the door during these times, under these circumstances, over what would've been a very small (safety related) concession on his part. The next day I called back to see if his boss wanted to deal, and Denny told me the car sold the night before - coincidentally less than an hour after I got off the phone with Nick. Did he call another customer who'd inquired about the van and offer them a deal just to make sure I couldn't buy it? That sounds way over the top...but given Nick's personality and level of anger at the end of our call, I wouldn't be surprised if he sent it to auction rather than allow me to try to buy it from his boss (or anyone else). I've worked in sales for decades; this was at best really poor execution of sales. If this guy is their sales manager (he is), I have to imagine that culture is shady as xxxx. I'm grateful I didn't get a chance to buy the car because I would've worried afterward about how Nick would try to sabotage it - the paperwork, the handoff, etc. etc. Guys like him are a cancer in companies that are trying to do honest business.
