I went in to see about a car that had been advertised on the internet for $8350. When I arrived, I was told that the price I had been quoted was actually $9350, and that the internet price assumed a $1000 c the internet for $8350. When I arrived, I was told that the price I had been quoted was actually $9350, and that the internet price assumed a $1000 cash down payment or trade-in. I thought by cash down, they meant that your down payment would be counted toward the total price. Several weeks later, when I noticed the car still had not been sold, I called with an offer and was informed that the $1000 down payment is actually in addition to the cash price, not counted towards it. So instead of giving you a discount for your trade like any normal dealership would do, you have to trade in a car just to avoid being charged an extra thousand dollars over than the sticker price. They claim that this type of deception is a “necessary evil” in order to “stay competitive in today’s online marketplace”. I don’t think they’ll have much luck being “competitive” with bait & switch tactics like this. Bringing people out to the dealership for a car already priced at the top of the market—only to hit them with an additional $1,000 in hidden fees—is not likely to generate much good will. More
