Too easy I was at Bud Brown to turn in my Jetta TDI and spotted a model vehicle on the Certified lot that I'd been interested in for a while, a 2014 GLI. Admitted I was not enthused about the TDI issue but Max made the transaction for the GLI easy, was very knowledgeable on the vehicle. The GLI is a great car, looks great, fun to drive. As long as you do not mention shopping around while negotiating on their showroom floor, you might make a deal to your satisfaction and drive away happy. If you choose otherwise and want to shop first, be prepared for confrontation. I visited Bud Brown VW to check out new 2017 VW Tiguan Wolfsburg Editions which are heavily incentivized this month. I am a current VW lessee with a 2014 Tiguan due for turn-in in 6 months. My current VW dealer (not Bud Brown) recently reached out about my current car and possible options at or before lease end. That dealer did not have 2017 Tiguans in the colors and trim desired. Bud Brown had several in stock so I made an appointment to take a look. No surprises to report with the salesperson I worked with. He was courteous and highly knowledgeable about VW. I proceeded on getting some initial numbers in preparing to shop around. The first offer for my trade was of course lowball. The second offer was up $1500 because they 'needed my car' in the present market. I made it clear I wanted to give my current VW dealer a shot as well. The salesperson wanted to proceed by running my credit. When again, I refused this is where things became classic, old-school car haggle. The manager came over and proceeded to invoke all of the language you would expect to motivate me to buy one of their cars today. He told me VW had already communicated incentives would not be the same next month. He then highlighted the Bud Brown lifetime warranty. I was surprised at how long it took for him to mention. He was proud of the fact they had three of the desired color and trim Tiguan's in stock and that no others were available in the area. It's here I made the decision to say no thank you and walk. The manager rapidly grabbed a worksheet off the desk the salesperson and I had been looking over. I asked him for a copy as he and the salesperson had both confirmed to me it was not a 'buy it today - take it or leave it' offer. He refused giving it to me and spouted off some nonsense about the information being proprietary. I left Bud Brown and immediately drove to the other VW dealer in the KC area. I easily negotiated a better lease deal on the exact car I wanted with a lower payment and shorter term. I'll be driving it in 72 hours. The other dealer also recommended turning in my current vehicle early which would save me money vs the route of going with a straight up dealer buy-out. Bud Brown never made that recommendation and it's one that was in my favor to the tune of several thousand dollars. More
