First, let me say that we are very sorry that this customer is unhappy with our service department. We try to assist everyone with their service needs as effectively as possible. Rather get into the details on an item by item basis, let me just say that working on cars that have been owner-serviced can be challenging. An owner trying to save money by doing their own work without the benefit of training and proper diagnostic equipment often creates more trouble than if the problem was diagnosed properly. Tricky electrical problems can be difficult and we commend the independent mechanic that was able to solve this one. Regarding the comment about installing customer provided parts- we don't do it for one simple reason, we cannot warrant the work and will not put ourselves in the position of being responsible for an unresolved problem created by parts from a source without recourse. The money saved buying brand new, off-brand parts or even worse, used parts, can be easily consumed in labor expense if the problem is not solved in the first round. There is nothing "dishonest" about turning down work... please consider the reviewer's point of view and decide for yourself if these complaints are well-founded. Ed Brunton, Service Director, Bryner Chevrolet.

Just noted that my salesman's. name did not come up and I have had most dealings with him. His name is Mike Gibbons and he is the best.

Bryner Chevrolet responded

As the owner of Bryner Chevrolet, I feel compelled to respond to this review personally. Let me begin by saying that our service person, having already been kept on the phone with lengthy details of the accident, offered to stay late and inappropriately said he did not want to hear another “LONG” story, not a “LOVE” story. There was nothing sexist in his reply, just frustration- which admittedly was wrong. Unfortunately, Ms. Zahn, as she stated in her review, was feeling vulnerable and expecting to be mistreated solely because she is female. Based on the past reputation of car dealers in general, this may be understandable but we have worked hard at trying to change that perception. I spoke with Ms. Zahn in the wake of the phone conversation that she had with our Assistant Service manager. After only a few minutes of attempting to apologize and determine a proper course of action, Ms. Zahn suggested that I repair the damage to her car at a 50% reduction of the estimate. It became obvious to me that the greater problem was that she didn’t want to “pay out of pocket” as she put it, for damage that was not her fault. I felt that the service department incident was being intentionally blown out of proportion. In my opinion, what should have ended with a mea culpa on my part and a free oil change grew into something much more and when the conversation became demanding and threatening, I had to shut it down. Reviews of businesses can help consumers make an informed decision and we welcome our customers to post these reviews and to be honest in their comments. Occasionally, these reviews are misused in an effort apply pressure by reviewers with unreasonable expectations or an axe to grind. In those cases, I can only appeal to your better judgment and ask you to read between the lines of the review and ask yourself how you would respond as a business owner in a similar situation. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to present the other side of the story. Dave Peterson.
