More often than not a trip to the dealership with your well used car will be one full of anxiety. It certainly was for me as my F-15 (Ecoboost) was just shy of the 200K mark and needed significant care t well used car will be one full of anxiety. It certainly was for me as my F-15 (Ecoboost) was just shy of the 200K mark and needed significant care to keep her running strong. Allen was my service consultant. When I told him the specific item I was bring it in for I also told him I knew it was nearing 200K and that I am sure there was more to attend to so give it "A hard look with a fine tooth comb." What followed a day or two later was a hard call for sure, but I will tell you the ending was a great story so read on. This truck was running okay...but it shouldn't have been. The timing chain was fully stretched, the inetrnals of that who system were near collapse so the check engine light was about to come on hard just for that. The front wheel interlock hub system for left and right wheels were failing to properly connect then retract causing mechanical noise. Worse, the Transmission was having serious issues to the point that I am lucky it did not happen on the road. In addition there were multiple lines leaking due to decay and rust and several other issues. This would be expensive. Allen called me and apologized up front as he knew this would be a high dollar repair if I did it all. Suffice it to say it was north of 10K to do it all. I must add here that I got no indication that this was being done to inflate the cost and steer me towards buying new. It was an honest review and one where they invited me down to see all the issues. I looked hard at buying a used truck with much lower miles, I even looked hard at new and considered that course of action. I had purchased my Truck in 2014 in NY so it has rust on it you don't see on other vehicles down here. I would get next to nothing in trade in the condition it was in. The smartest option to consider was to fix it all. Allen was in agreement with me after a conversation on it. The work would take a week or more. Bob is the service manager...he took on making sure this expensive repair was done right and to my satisfaction. He knew I was laying out a lot of cash to use this extra repair work to have this truck be its own bridge to my next vehicle and not cost me more than necessary. He had two of his master technicians look at everything before, during and after. Repair complete I was invited in to talk with the Technician who oversaw all the work done and did a lot of the work himself. He had kept a box full of every part that came off my truck and explained each piece to me ad why it was replaced. I am a pretty knowledgeable person on most things auto when it comes to understanding what's bad and what's good on an engine, transmission and other such items. This technician took all the time I wanted as this was a lot of money and he knew I would want to assure myself of it being the right decision. Final analysis, this is the kind of shop you want fixing your vehicle...these are the kinds of people who earn your trust by being an open book and giving you the time and the respect as a customer of not just telling you but showing then proving to you. You can bet I am still not all that happy that I had such an expensive bill, who would be? But I tell you this, I am more than happy that in making my decision I was informed, educated, and satisfied with the result. During the few times they had me down they gave me a ride home and assured me that if needed they would come pick me up to come to their location too. More
