I called Bridgewater Kia on a Wednesday about arranging for a test drive and to go over pricing for a 2023 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD and made an appointment to travel two states to see the car. After test drivin for a test drive and to go over pricing for a 2023 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD and made an appointment to travel two states to see the car. After test driving the car on Saturday and inquiring about an out the door price, I was presented with a quote that included among numerous other inflated fees, a charge of $1,500 in reconditioning attempting to pass off their costs to the customer. This was a little eyebrow-raising considering the wildly curb-rashed state of the passenger side wheels, among other worn areas one would assume "reconditioning" would cover. When asked point blank about the suspiciously timed $2,000 increase in list price the day after I had called to schedule the test drive, the salesman first stated it was simply a market adjustment. When further pressed he then then made the mistake of including that it was his sales manager that made that adjustment, not some arbitrary algorithm assessing current market pricing. To add to the deceptive business practice checklist, once informed that there would be no trade-in and in-house financing was unlikely unless they were willing or able to beat the outside financing rates I had already secured, I was further informed that the price was also going to be increased another $1,500 above list price. To put it simply, when a business advertises a car for $43,500 on their website and it magically increases to $47,000 before a $1,500 overpriced GPS tracker or a $1,500 reconditioning fee is even factored in, there are no number of asterisks next to a price that make up for deceptive, dishonest, greasy business practices. If you enjoy the feeling of bathing in month old used, unfiltered fryer oil as someone attempts to pickpocket you while they look you in the eye, by all means I welcome you to shop at Bridgewater Kia. Sorry Mike, no sale. More
