The CX-30 we wanted was not on the lot. We were told by the salesperson that the model we wanted would arrive a few days later. We were then contacted the following week that the car had arrived and would the salesperson that the model we wanted would arrive a few days later. We were then contacted the following week that the car had arrived and would be ready to pick up the following day. When we arrived at the dealer we were taken to the finance person to sign the paperwork. As expected when purchasing a new vehicle, we signed a series of documents. The finance person very polite and professional provided us with information about "add-ons: to the car, extended warranties, tire warranties, etc. However, there was one important add-on that was not included in the discussion. It was neither explained nor revealed in the document, which was a series of dealer add-ons amounting to over $1800 that were included in the total price. These consisted of 4 items that included a set of wheel locks. We had not ordered this add-on package nor were we told that it would be added nor was it anywhere in the paperwork, and most important, the fees were not on the car like one would expect to see on the window next to the Monroney sticker from the manufacturer. All window stickers had been removed when the car was delivered to us. Had the finance person revealed there would be additional dealer costs embedded in the price it would have allowed us to either accept them, negotiate, or refuse them. Unfortunately I had not discovered the additional dealer fees until 5 days and 300 miles later when I happen to see the add-on sticker in the glove compartment. Had I not found it I would have been completely satisfied with our dealer experience. As a consumer I completely understand my responsibility to be aware of and to decide whether I want to pay for these extra charges. I also understand that car dealers make profits and that's okay. I have purchased numerous cars in my life but this time there was no opportunity to accept, negotiate or refuse the additional charges. The sad part about this event is that the car has been great and we are happy with the vehicle. The car has confirmed the great reputation that Mazda has as a car builder. However, this dealer's business practices have soured any sense of satisfaction. I contacted Mazda corporation over a week ago explaining our dissatisfaction with the dealer and expressing our concern about Mazda corporation turning a blind eye to this unethical practices. I received follow-up e-mail from them asking if the dealer had contacted us about our experience....nothing. Car dealers have the right to add any additional costs to their cars. It's the market. Intentionally, hiding an $1800 dealer add-on is another story. More
