Left With A New Problem After Routine Oil Change Preparing for a long trip up north and back I took my car in for a routine oil change, tire rotation and multi-point inspection. All work was done ti Preparing for a long trip up north and back I took my car in for a routine oil change, tire rotation and multi-point inspection. All work was done timely and efficiently, including a suggested replacement of an air filter, which I agreed to. During my trip up north, my car simply cut out all electrical to the car multiple times when I stopped for gas, leaving me very uncomfortable and insecure in my reliability during my trip. The only way in which I could get the car started was to giggle the positive terminal on my battery and hope and pray that it would start. With no Ford dealership in the area, I limped along for 3 days under these tenuous conditions. I checked the report from my multi-point inspection and the battery was supposedly checked out fine. However, upon looking under the red cover of the positive terminal, I discovered a huge amount of corrosion that was not cleaned by the technician. I later found that the terminal had corroded such that a portion of the ring that secures around the post had fried and broken apart, causing the sometimes disconnection from the battery. This required a return to the dealership for a replacement terminal, which my son and I replaced in order to ensure the whole battery and both terminals were properly cleaned, reattached securely and sprayed with a protective sealant to prevent further corrosion. I expected more from my otherwise very reliable dealership's service department. The technician at the time of my oil change should have easily seen all the corrosion on the positive terminal, had it removed and cleaned and identified the broken ring on the terminal, thus requiring a replacement terminal connector....a $50.00 part. This oversight caused me a lot of stress during my trip, forced me to leave my car unlocked at all times, not knowing if I could get back in or not with the keyfob or digital code panel which both need electrical to operate. I will continue to patronize this dealership, but I think some refresher training is required of their technicians, especially when it comes to battery inspections. Gary E. Corbin 313-598-0600 More
