This customer had several issues with the vehicle to start with. We replaced the power steering rack because of a very bad leak. The power steering fluid was very low and she had been driving like this for a while. After we replaced the steering rack a leak developed in the power steering pump. This is because when something in a high pressure system such as power steering is leaking it starves the rest of the system of lubrication and can cause seals to dry out. After we replaced the power steering rack and pressure was introduced to the system the pump seal began to leak. This is common, and this is why customers need to address these issues sooner so as to prevent further damage. This customer is upset that she bought an extended warranty and did not realize that it was just for powertrain and so many of the repairs needed to her vehicle were not covered. You really need to ask questions when buying extended warranties. They don't always cover the entire vehicle.

We do try to complete all repairs as fast as we can. In this case several factors beyond our control caused many delays in completing this repair. The first one, not being able to get in for the repair, was due too a local union strike. We were not the only shop in the area this affected. The strike lasted for one month for our shop and two months for some of the others. We cannot repair cars without our techs! This was something beyond our control. Second, and most important, because of the Global Pandemic(Covid-19) there are not only parts shortages but delays in shipping as well. All infotainment systems(radios) now use computer chips to operate. There is a global shortage of the chips used to make these, as well as cars. This is something we cannot control. Customers need to be aware of these things and know that we do all that we can to complete repairs as soon as possible, but some of the things that happen are beyond our control! I
