Shouldn't buy a brand other than Honda here To start off, I want to say that I purchased a Used Subaru from Bernardi Honda. This probably was a fairly large factor in my experience, but I would To start off, I want to say that I purchased a Used Subaru from Bernardi Honda. This probably was a fairly large factor in my experience, but I would like to make this detail known from the start. I was searching for a manual Subaru Crosstrek and found one available at Bernardi Honda in Natick, so I made an appointment to come and test drive the vehicle. I was about a half hour late for my appointment because of another test drive taking longer than expected. I arrived and told the receptionist that I was there for a test drive appointment with Bob McGrath, who was working with another customer when I arrived. Bob was kind enough to let me test drive the vehicle while he was with the other customer. I drove it and enjoyed the ride and thought that it had a good ride and did not notice anything wrong or particularly worrisome. Upon arriving back I looked over the Carfax and was told that the vehicle was fully serviced, so it was ready to go. I then told them that I would go home and discuss my options with my wife before making any final decisions and would call when one was made. I decided that this was the one that worked best for me and our budget. I called a few hours later and told Bob the news. I then went the following day to pay the downpayment and fill out the paperwork with my wife, but wanted to test drive again with my wife to get a second opinion. Bob went with us this time and the car drove well once again. After about a week we wired the money to Bernardi and scheduled for someone to bring the car to us in southern New Hampshire to finalize the sale. This took many phone calls to confirm information for the wire transfer and scheduling someone to take the car to us and we were bounced around to various people a lot and were sent to voicemail with no follow up a few times. This was the start of my issues. Anthony, one of the other sales consultants, delivered the vehicle, which I later found out meant that he got credit for the sale rather than Bob. This was obnoxious to me because I had worked with Bob for the actual sale and then was left unsure who my actual salesman was when I had any follow up questions. Upon arrival I realized that there were not any license plate screws for the car. This was not a major concern and I picked up a set at a local auto parts store to properly affix my plates before returning home. On my ride home I noticed that there was a clunk every time I went over any bumps, the brakes were slightly squeeky, and the bluetooth was cutting out a lot, so I called Bernardi and scheduled to bring it in two days later on a Friday morning. After driving an hour down to the dealership and waiting about 5 hours I was told that they needed to replace a strut and the stereo headunit. I then scheduled an appointment for two weeks later at a time that worked for my schedule. A couple days later I noticed that the engine was ticking louder than it should (louder than the drive belt and boxer engine typically should be on a Subaru), so I brought the car back the following Friday. They replaced the parts and called me to come get the car. Over the phone, I was told that the engine is normal and that it is just a loud engine. I was skeptical and called a few times before driving back out to pick it up because I had to drive an hour in two cars each time I dropped the car off and pick it up. They stated that they had brought over a technician from the Subaru dealer next door and confirmed that the sound is normal. I decided to trust them and drove it home that evening. I drove it a couple more days and found that I still was not comfortable with the engine sound level and brought the car to a Subaru dealer near my house. I pulled in to the garage and five Subaru technicians stood around my car and told me that something definitely is wrong and that it was probably the valve springs or camshaft, which I had told the Bernardi service member when dropping the car off the last time. I was not happy because this made me skeptical if Bernardi did indeed bring someone from Subaru to look at the car. I took the car right back again to drop off and be properly assessed and fixed. This of course required two vehicles again. I waited a few days and had to call to get an answer on what was happening or if something would be done. I finally got a call during which they told me that they were going to buy the car back from me because they did not want to fix it and find that something else was wrong down the line. I then was told that I would receive a call with details, which never came and I had to call multiple times to finally get answers over the following couple of days. I was contacted by Levon, a sales manager, that I could come and pick up my things and they would write me a check so that I could be on my way. I went the next day to collect my possessions from the vehicle and get a check for the price I had paid for the vehicle. I was able to receive my things, but then was told that they would send the check the following day in the mail, which was not what I was told originally, but was fine as long as I did not have to come back down again. The next day came and I was told that I could not have the check until my title came and it was delivered to them as well. This whole time I was without my own car and had to borrow my wife’s, who thankfully did not have to work the week we had this happen. Three days later I received my title and drove down once more to deliver the title because I needed the money to pay for another car I had found and could not wait for the title to arrive to them and then for them to mail me my check. Needless to say I was very happy to be done making trips back and forth after delivering the title and getting the check, especially when the issues should have been addressed the first time I presented them to service. I called the general manager, Charles Sectish, a few days later and explained the situation and he pleasantly agreed to send me a check to compensate for my troubles and extra expenses that the vehicle cost me. I would like to say again that many of my troubles came from purchasing a brand other than Honda at this Honda dealer, but there were certainly a lot more frustrations than there should have been all together. I owned that Subaru for approximately four weeks and then had to go and find another one, which I bought certified used at an actual Subaru dealer. I do not wish to discredit Bernardi because they were friendly and helpful for the most part when we were directly working with people, but I warn customers that this may not be the best place to purchase a used vehicle of a brand other than Honda. Their phone system was also frustrating, especially considering we rarely had a person answer the phone when we called, and we rarely had someone call us back after having left a voicemail. More
