This review is to put Berman Subaru on blast and warn women about how the service department will treat you differently. We bought a Crosstrek in 2013. Car was great, price was right, sale was smooth women about how the service department will treat you differently. We bought a Crosstrek in 2013. Car was great, price was right, sale was smooth, we did not have issues for years, and planned on buying a new car from them this fall. In early December we got new tires at Firestone. In late December we took the car to Berman for maintenance, and they had to replace a ball joint and realign the wheels. A few weeks later Chicago was hit with a heavy snow and we discovered our AWD was out when trying to get out of our garage. While inspecting the car we noticed a tiny plastic piece was missing on the front (some sort of access panel piece for maintenance) as well as a couple nuts from the tires. My wife took the car to Berman, told them we thought the mechanics messed up and did not connect a wire or something related to the AWD. After waiting for several hours, the mechanics tried to gaslight my wife, told her she was wrong, they were not responsible for the missing parts, and the AWD was working. The AWD part was funny because they had to push the car up the drive to get it to the maintenance area. My wife came back and told me what happened. A couple weeks later the AWD went out again (I suspect it was a wire or connection that was pulled / loose from their work). I called Berman and spoke to a manager and they said they had previously fixed it (so they were lying to my wife). I eventually spoke to a high-level manager in their office, explained what happened, and how they were not honest with my wife. The manager was incredibly apologetic and offered to make us whole by fixing the AWD and replacing the missing parts on the car; he also said he was going to make a note in our file. My wife took the car in this week to get an oil change and have them fix the AWD, and Berman told her there was no note in our file. The estimate they gave us included replacing things they replaced last year (breaks and rotors) as well as issues that stem from their messy work on the suspension in December (a loose control arm); it also included $150 for realignment (I am sure its related to suspension work) and we paid $150 for realignment in late December. I called the manager while my wife was there, and they changed their tone and agreed to at least replace the missing parts. Despite that, they still wanted to charge us around $1,300 for work that stemmed from their negligence / poor workmanship in December. Ultimately, there has been a clear difference in how Berman has treated / spoke to me vs my wife. They talked to her like she was an idiot and brushed off her complaints. They only took complaints seriously when I intervened. Even then, they messed up our car which caused other problems and they want us to pay for their mistakes – it has a fraud’y feel to it. We purchased a car from Berman because we live close, and the purchase was fine. But if you plan on having Berman work on your car after purchase, we’d recommend you look elsewhere, especially if you’re a woman. More
I had an excellent experience with Berman Subaru's Service Department! It started with a wonderful front line experience with Lori, who was patient, knowledgeable, and despite the amount of work that Service Department! It started with a wonderful front line experience with Lori, who was patient, knowledgeable, and despite the amount of work that needed to be done on my vehicle (3 recalls and a Major Maintenance), was able to get me in quickly with a loaner. Seriously, when you call, ask for Lori/Loredana. I fully expected to have to get brakes as well, but I appreciated their honesty when they said that my brakes actually looked fine. This is an honest Service Department. I took them up on the other suggested services, which included various fluids (I have a Turbo) and a drive belt replacement. I'm really glad that I did, because my car now drives better than I ever remembered it- so smooth and I'm in love with my car again. Major xxxxxxto the team here at Berman Subaru. I will be back (and send my friends...). More
I can honestly say I had a bad experience today at Berman Subaru of Chicago. But let me go back and explain why. On the last week of May I purchased a 2015 WRX with 58k miles at a reasonable price. A couple Subaru of Chicago. But let me go back and explain why. On the last week of May I purchased a 2015 WRX with 58k miles at a reasonable price. A couple weeks later the car starts having power issues as I accelerate from a complete stop. I took it to the dealer and explained to Nick (from service) that my car is not running well. Nick told me that he will have someone test drive and inspect the car to see what could possibly be wrong. I've waiting a little over two hours. Nick comes back and tells me nothing is wrong with the car and it's ready to go. I said are you sure because the car feels weak. He said no everything seems to be fine, so he hands me the keys and I drive the car and it was running well. 2 weeks later I'm driving to work and the car starts feeling weak again and now with the check engine light on. So I ended up leaving work and headed straight to the dealer. I explained in details of how and when it happened. Once again Nick was the one to assist me. He said it'll be a fee to diagnosed the car I said it's fine. About 30-45 minutes later he said its the O2 sensor and in total with diagnostic fee will be $500 and that "might" solve the issue. I was told to either wait till the car is ready or I would receive a call once it's ready. I decided to come back for the car. About two hours later I get a call saying my car is ready. The car started driving better but still not satisfied with the random times it will loose power on a complete stop. One night coming home from work I was at an intersection waiting on a left turn when the car decided not to accelerate while making a turn. I was very close to getting into a car accident because the car did not accelerate properly. The next day I called Subaru and explained the situation and was told to schedule an appointment to inspect the car. I called off work and took the car the next day. For the third time I had Nick as my service advisor. This time I was in the waiting lobby for like 30 minutes. He comes back and tells me you're car is fine just drive it around and it should be ok. Well as I drove the car away the car seemed fine but I never understood why the car was running fine after I left the dealer. On September 6 2020 I was driving home on the expressway and the mileage started dropping so I let go of the acceleration and pull over on the shoulder to see what's wrong but once I made a complete stop the car died out on me. The car wouldn't start. I called roadside assistance and took it to Berman subaru Chicago . Where now I was told I need an engine for 8500 that's without a new turbo (if needed) . 9/28/2020 walked into dealer to negotiate/test drive new vehicle. Was very disappointed was told by Jake the salesmen "your finances need to be checked before anything" Manager Luke Said "theirs not shit we can do for you" service is closed. This discourages me to buy a Subaru due to the fact the managers telling me how he has seen Subaru's with 40 miles blow up an engine.....???? I only had the car for 3 months 3000 miles on the engine. Joe is the MAN! I bought my Outback from Joe about a year ago. Very recently I was rear ended so I called Joe again. Joe sent a loaner car to my work the next day. I bought my Outback from Joe about a year ago. Very recently I was rear ended so I called Joe again. Joe sent a loaner car to my work the next day. They drove my car to the shop and got me connected with Angel in their service center right away. Angel called me back with a few other things that were covered under warranty that they fixed that day. The rest was sent to their body shop. I got an estimate that day. I got my car back 4 days later. Everything looks great. Joe and Angel were amazing! Can't say enough about this place. More
Excellent service, wonderful vehicle I had EXCELLENT service with Rob Folks. After dealing with other dealerships in Indianapolis, Rob made my total experience amazing. So wonderful, in I had EXCELLENT service with Rob Folks. After dealing with other dealerships in Indianapolis, Rob made my total experience amazing. So wonderful, in fact, that I drove from Indianapolis to Chicago just to purchase my 2017 Forester from him. Rob gave me the absolute best price in a 6 hour radius, made sure my Forester had everything I wanted in the timeline I needed, and made the entire experience so pleasant. Even when there was a line waiting for finance, Rob was extremely personable and knowledgeable. He's truly passionate about Subarus and keyed in on the features that were important to me. More
