Pretty disappointed to learn that the pricing listed on their own website was not accurate - they forgot to add the outrageous "market adjustment" gouging. The "lock-in the Lanphere Price" is pretty useles More

Beaverton Kia responded

I am sorry that you feel that your experience was that horrible. I normally try to listen objectively, offer assistance where I can, and use these situations as a training moment for my staff to try to improve our process. There are always 2 sides to every story and in this case, they are quite different. I feel that since you called Carlos out by name that I should address that first. Carlos is always courteous, attentive, and respectful and has one of the highest customer satisfaction ratings in the district and that is with both men and women customers. Before he started working with me in the car business almost 7 years ago, he spent years working in the women’s shoe department at Nordstrom, a company widely known for their customer service standards, and had zero issues… ever. Now, to address what transpired here. When we take a lease in from a customer that is going back all we do for Kia is verify the miles and VIN number and mark it here in Kia’s system. We do not inspect them or vouch for condition and in most cases it is a fairly simple process. We do, as a courtesy, try to make sure that the customer is aware of any potential issues that we may see so that they are not surprised later. Carlos was attempting to explain to you that the amount of damage is most likely far greater than what is covered in the “excess wear and use” clause in your lease and unless there was any additional coverage that you may have purchased, you would more than likely get a bill for the additional amount from Kia. He also informed you that we take your vehicle and park it on our storage lot until Kia sends someone out to inspect it and that we are not responsible for securing your vehicle or for anything that may happen to it while it is here. This was important because Kia is quite backed up so it may be here for an extended period before they make it out to finalize their inspection. Your vehicle was also, as you said, missing a window which could result in additional damage from water or possibly even an unwanted guest. Carlos even suggested that since it didn’t have to be returned right away that you explore your options with your insurance company and possibly get an estimate from a body shop before turning it in, again so that you are not surprised by any extra charges. Additionally, his comment of “talk to friends and family” that you found so offensive, was just a reiteration of your comment earlier in the conversation that you had friends and family in the car business and that lease cars and you know how it works. And so you are aware, the dealerships facilitate the return of leased vehicles as a courtesy for the customer and the manufacturer. There is no compensation or benefit, monetary or otherwise for the dealership or any of the employees. In fact the easiest route, although not in the customer’s best interest, would have been to smile, say sure, take your keys and send it back and let you deal with the consequences. Instead, Carlos opted to do his best to provide you with his time and professional advice (free of charge) so that you could have the best outcome possible. I truly hope that it goes as smoothly as you expect it will and there are no surprises for you. I also know, from over 26 years of my personal experience of gratefully serving customers that if we did not say anything about the potential extra costs you might incur and you did get an additional bill, we would be responding to a totally different review in a few months. Sincerely, the General manager.
