Thanks for reaching out to us. Hopefully in a few sentences I can explain the mechanics of a lease to show how we ended up where we are today. When a vehicle is leased, the leasing company (Nissan Motor Acceptance Corp, or NMAC) purchases the vehicle from the dealership and allows the customer to use it. All terms are spelled out in the lease paperwork that you signed before you took possession of the car, including charges for wear and tear as well as disposition. These fees are established by the leasing company (NMAC). The leasing company also keeps any money charged since they own the vehicle (the dealership does not get any of the fees you pay/paid at termination). Even though you dropped your car off at the dealership at the end of the lease, it will be picked up by a car carrier and returned to NMAC in Tennessee since they own it. We certainly don't want you to have a bitter taste of our dealership as you walk away from your vehicle. I know you contacted our dealership, but I also want to make sure you have the number for Nissan's Lease Customer Network at 800.778.4211

I understand; however, it was not made clear at the time the lease paperwork was signed, nor when the car was returned, and that is the job of the dealership. When I went back and looked at the paperwork, it is not clear. It shows three amounts - amount due at lease, monthly payment, and other charges - and then it shows the total. The total includes the "other charges" and says "The amount you will have paid by the end of the Lease", not AFTER the lease. Although this is a fee from NMAC, it is the responsibility of the dealership to make this clear. This should ESPECIALLY be made clear when the car is turned in, which it WAS NOT mentioned at all, so that the your customer is well informed to make the decision whether to turn in or buy.
