We have been looking for a 2023 highlander limited for a while. This weekend when my husband was getting his Camry serviced he noticed one on the lot. We all know if you don't put a deposit on one it is gone in a second. Well needless to say we have a deposit on one that was being built and would not be ready till the end of April. After we reached out to Bayside they provided us with details of the car. We worked on the numbers that were suitable for both parties. No headache there. That is a plus. They even stayed later after hours to answer our questions on a Saturday. Come Monday morning we had all the figures we needed. Not having a lot of time to sit at the dealership for hours on end. I sent them my info and they had my new 23 limited Highlander Hybrid ready and waiting. I was out the door in under an hour on Monday after noon. The service and responsiveness with Bayside Toyota is outstanding. It has been a pleasure working with Jason Roberts and the rest of the team there at bayside. ’ve had a car reserved with them since July 2022. When I initially spoke with Jarrett, a car salesman at Bayside Toyota, he told me that we would negotiate a price on the car once we got closer to th When I initially spoke with Jarrett, a car salesman at Bayside Toyota, he told me that we would negotiate a price on the car once we got closer to the date for when the car would be finished being built, September 25th. From July-September, I called regularly for updates and provided updates on my end. Since I was buying a new car, I had to find a buyer for my current car, which I did. I had another dealership who wanted to buy my old car. We signed a contract and they sent the check to pay the lien on my old car. The timeline for the sale of my old car was based on the purchase of my new Toyota. Initially I had planned to fly from Florida to Maryland to pick up the new car from my home state. I’m military and a single mom to two toddlers so in addition to my car sale, I had to schedule leave and have family take off to help me. Unfortunately this part of the plan fell through as recovery for a surgery I had on my stomach was not as expeditious as I’d thought it would be. I had to switch over to a shipping company that would pick the new car up and bring it to me here in Florida. After calling several companies, I finally settled on one. I booked with the shipping company one week before the car would be at Bayside Toyota. I then went to my bank to pick up the cashiers check for $50,000 so I could then overnight the check to the dealership. Keep in mind that I’m still sore from surgery so driving 40 minutes to the only branch available in my area and then having to drive 40 minutes back put me in more pain than I’d like to admit. To me, it was worth it because the car I was buying from Bayside Toyota is my dream car. I was excited. Immediately after leaving the bank, I called Jarrett to let him know I had the $50,000 cashiers check and needed the address to send it to (I was on my way to the post office to send it). Jarrett tells me that the “out the door” price for the car was a little over $54,000. He then said he would get with his manager to have the price lowered at I’d been waiting faithfully for this car. He called back and said his manager, Jeff, could only bring the price down to $53,000. I reiterated that the check I had was only for $50,000. Jarrett kept pressuring me to change my financing over to Toyotas financing from my personal banks. He said they’d only be willing to lower the price and accommodate me if I switch over. I told him I wanted to stick with my bank. He then said he was waiting for Mike Wang to come in as they had planned a meeting to discuss this issue. Several hours later, I received a text from Jarrett saying they couldn’t lower the price any more. I then called to speak to Mike Wang. Jeff would not allow me to get through to him and kept repeating that he would speak to Jarrett and call me back. I never received a call back. I then called the office back. I was in tears and had been crying since I found out hours ago. Jeff seemed to have zero empathy or care for anything that had happened. I left off the phone feeling worse than I had before I called. They say you should never expect anyone to care about yourself more than you… this situation solidifies that. These people care more about $3000 than they do about a loyal customer. They don’t care about how they affect peoples lives. The current market we are in has brought a lot of light to which companies value money over their own customers. I had my dream car reserved for a few months. Now I’m having to lose my dream car and my current car all because they couldn’t meet me on the price. I really wish Jarrett hadn’t told me initially that he would work with me to bring it down to where it needed to be… I would have gone with one of the many other dealerships that had called me for the same car, trim, etc. I’m now under a lot of stress because I have to figure out transportation for not only myself, but for two kids that are still in car seats. (Red flag #1) Let Dan the sales manager know my wife was 8 months pregnant and were unsure about the drive. He assured us we would be taken care of and treated professionally. Drove two hours to look at the SUV and met with the salesman Mark. Asked a few questions about the suspension of the SUV of the car and features. He kept referring me to the Window Sticker because he didn't know. He swore he built hot rods but never heard of Toyotas KDSS system. (Red flag #2) Wife like the car so we sat down to make it work. Laughed when they came back with a 3K price add to the MSRP they advertised online. (Red flag #3) Told us what they would give as a trade in and it was just down hill from there. Sales manager doesn't even know how to use KBB. I should of known this was going to be a PIA as a returning customer from buying a brand new jeep at the King George location. Don't waist your time. Go to Mechanicsville Toyota where they are not marking up MSRP. Bayside would rather line there own pockets vs retaining a customer. Sales manager even told me to deal with them instead! Ended up putting a deposit on a 2021 4Runner Venture with the KDSS and more features then the one that Bayside had for thousands less!
