A "Certified" Vehicle with Three Areas of Body Damage! I bought a CPO, "Certified Pre-Owned" Vehicle from this dealership about 2 months ago. It was raining the evening I picked up the car. That night I wa I bought a CPO, "Certified Pre-Owned" Vehicle from this dealership about 2 months ago. It was raining the evening I picked up the car. That night I was in my garage drying the car, when I felt, then noticed, a ding on the left rear door, with bubbling paint, signaling potential oxidation and rust. As I continued wiping, I felt a dent down low on the bumper, behind the left rear tire, such that my drying towel was snagging on it. I got out my flashlight, and I saw that the corner was bent almost 90 degrees inward, dented, and the paint was scraped. I was concerned, to say the least. The next morning, I went to Gerber Glass and Collision to have an estimate with me to give to whomever I'd be speaking with at BMW about the damage. While showing the two areas of damage to the Gerber estimator, I thought to check out the rest of the car. I asked him to look at the back, and I went toward the front to start looking there. Before I reached the front, he said, "Mr. Evans, your bumper is cracked back here too." He said the car definitely had been hit in the back, on the left side. I got the estimate, and went to the dealership to show them. Now, I know accidents happen. Perhaps an employee, in moving the cars, bumped my car, and all I wanted was for them to fix the damage. It took days for me to finally catch up with Chris Ofcky, the CPO Manager, who said right away the damage would be fixed, I was given a loaner, and I felt better. After about 5 days, I got a call to come and pick up the car. However, later that week, I noticed, in direct sunlight, that there was a cloudy film on the right/back side of the bumper (the initial damage was on the left, back and side). I took it to my detail guy again, who said this film was "under the clear coat, and buffing won't remove that white film", and "the only way to properly eliminate this problem was to paint the whole bumper." I also took it back to Gerber, who said exactly the same as my detail guy. So, I took it back to the dealership. Again. This time, while showing a finance guy the damage, as the sales people were in a meeting, and I couldn't wait around for that to end. I unfortunately a person named Berto Soria, later identified as "The New-Car Sales Manager", approach me. (I wondered then why the New-Car Sales Manager, whom I never met, was approaching me in this matter, when I bought a "Certified Pre-Owned", and Chris Ofcky is the CPO Manager, who was addressing the issue.) Berto began a bullying tactic to avoid fixing my car, saying, "Gerber just wants to make money", when Gerber actually suggested I try using Mineral Spirits first, before spending $600 to $800 to have the bumper painted. (Tried that too, and it did not work!) Berto went on to tell me, "I'm not putting another dime in this car", and when things got heated, he actually yelled, "xxxx You!" to me, then informed the person at the desk TO CALL THE POLICE ON ME. I wasn't going anywhere! At that point, Ofcky appeared, stopped the police from being called, and took me into his office, and committed to fix my car properly. A call came in as we were talking, he picked up the phone, and said, "I have a customer here, and I have to set up a paint job." He gave me a loaner, I shook his hand, thanked him, and I left. About 5 days later, I was called by my sales person to come get the car. I asked then, "Did you look at it before I come out there? Is it fixed right?" He said it was. But when I got there, it was not! It was improved; however, there's still a white cloudy spot behind the right tire, and the whole bumper still has the same cloudy film and streaking under the clear coat. I went in and asked what was done. Ofcky said, "We stripped it down, sanded it, buffed it real good, and put on some clear coat." But they didn't paint it. At that point, I was done. You cannot tell someone on the phone you're setting up a paint job, then you don't paint the bumper. INEXCUSABLE, not to mention disrespectful and a complete WASTE of my time! I, my sister who drives BMWs and referred me to BMW, and her daughter, who saw my car and wants one, will be taking our business to BACK to BMW of Orland Park, where she had been going before they moved to a condo near Schererville, where this dealership is. She bought an SUV, and they can't even fix her tire that keeps losing air. Someone really needs to inform Berto it is not smart business to yell, "xxxx you!", at the top of your lungs, in the dealership parking lot, where high-end customers, like me, who can write a check for ANY vehicle on their lot, can hear that kind of grossly unprofessional comment, then conclude this is not a place to do business with. Obviously BMW of Shererville doesn't care, but maybe BMW Corporate does, which is why I've already contacted them. Save yourself time and hassle by avoiding this dealership like you'd avoid the plague! More
