Horrible Experience ... Big Repair Bill the Day After Just a warning to anyone looking to buy a used car from a dealer, steer clear of Marathon Automaxx in Summerville. They are not at all affiliated with Just a warning to anyone looking to buy a used car from a dealer, steer clear of Marathon Automaxx in Summerville. They are not at all affiliated with Automax, though they will tell you outside they are, reporting to them weekly. They sell pure junk, no safety inspections, just detail them put on the lot and sell, leaving you on your own for the repairs, as we found out the very next day when ours broke down. Their manager John Dangerfield told us himself, when we went back to see if they would cover the repairs, "We sell 160 cars a month, don't have time for inspections" ............. classic line from a stereotypical lowlife used car salesman. So save yourself the aggravation and try somewhere else, maybe a bigger dealer, you may pay a little more, but at least they will stand behind their sale, and you will have a safe car. BTW repair bill came to $1675, for new cats, multiple o2 sensors and mass air, the dealer repair tech did verify that the check engine light had been reset multiple times before I bought it, so Marathon Automaxx knew the vehicle had issues and hid them. Like I said, just another lowlife used car xxxx ....... steer clear. More
DON'T do business with these guys I recently had a horrible experience at AutoMaxx of Summerville. I submitted a request for an offer to purchase my used vehicle thru AutoTrader Marke I recently had a horrible experience at AutoMaxx of Summerville. I submitted a request for an offer to purchase my used vehicle thru AutoTrader Marketplace Trade in offers. AutoMaxx was listed as a buy site for AutoTrader. My offer was supposed to be completely backed by AutoTrader. In an effort to not wast my time driving to this inconvenient location, I called and spoke to John, the used car sales manager about the offer over the phone. He told me to come on in and he would be glad to honor the AutoTrader offer and might be able to offer me more money, if the vehicle was in good condition. Of course I immediately drove to meet with him... They looked at my car, test drove it and looked at the AutoTrader offer for over an hour. I was waiting with my friend who graciously followed me, in order to take me home after the car was sold. Of course we thought this was a done deal. Man, was I wrong. A representative on John's team came over and shook my hand. He said the car would need to be detailed by his team, in order to put it up for sale (isn't that a standard practice and included in their cost to do business???). The car was not overly dirty and in fact, was in almost mint condition all over. No scratches, blemishes, etc. He then proceeded to tell me that they would offer $4,000 lower than the "guaranteed and backed AutoTrader offer". I was completely floored! I asked why. He told me they do not typically deal with my type of car (which is the best selling and most marketable used car and color on the market). I asked if they did not deal with my type of car, then why did they waste my time and effort. He had no good answer. I walked out of the dealership after wasting an entire morning and got absolutely nothing done. I was taught a harsh lesson in bait and switch selling and buying by this sub par, mom and pop shop of a car dealership. I complained to AutoTrader and they told me this should not happen. They got their local rep involved and he spoke to John and then sent me an email, saying it was taken care of and to give John a call back. I called John and received the exact same lip service. He was not going to be able to honor AutoTrader's offer and stood by his offer. He also told me that Steve from AutoTrader supported his decision. WHAT??? Then why did Steve send me an email to tell me this was taken care of and to call John. I guess they both had so much respect for my time that they decided to jointly waste some more of it............... Bottom line: These guys are unprofessional, ethically lacking and clearly represent everything that gives car dealerships and their employees a bad reputation. For the honest auto dealerships that work to achieve mutually beneficial deals with their customers, I hate it for you, that you are constantly drug in the dirt by the bad reputation afforded to your industry by the likes of outfits like AutoMaxx of Summerville. Recommedation: Stay as far away from doing business with these guys as you can. Shuck and Jive, Bait and Switch, dishonest dealings. Period. More
Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me. Burn one: Turns out the car I bought and financed over the phone was sold the prior week at an auto auction and they didn't even know it! Burn two: T Burn one: Turns out the car I bought and financed over the phone was sold the prior week at an auto auction and they didn't even know it! Burn two: Trying to give these guys the benefit of the doubt, I drove 2 hours from my house to their lot and found another car that I really liked. Then, I'm told that the price sticker in the window actually belonged to ANOTHER CAR THAT HAD BEEN SOLD EARLIER THAT DAY and the actual price was over a grand more. How many shades of stupid does it look like I have on my face? After reading these other reviews, I am so glad my money stayed in my wallet, but it was a LONG ride back to the house with a spouse madder than a wet hen. More
Bad Customer Service, LOWEST value for your trade I have tried purchasing vehicles from them twice. The first time I had little to no money down and they were straight shooters on financing. The se I have tried purchasing vehicles from them twice. The first time I had little to no money down and they were straight shooters on financing. The second time- here is the one star. They hyped up being partnered with Auto Trader. Tough cookies. They offered me literally half for my trade than what any other dealer offered me. Also, they refused to give me an offer on my trade until I test drove a car and had my credit ran. Both the sales and finance manager laughed at me when I asked them to come up on the trade or down on the car (which was $1200 over retail). Next, since the "banks were closing for the day", I was told the numbers would be figured out the next day. Surprise- the two guys I worked with were off. Surprisingly, the night before 7 of their cars had been broken into. It has been about 4 weeks and I am still waiting for the call back. I ended up going through another dealer. Don't waste your time. More
I have one word to describe my experience at Auto Maxx Summerville (AWESOME!) From the minute I walked in till I left I felt comfortable and well informed, I was not rushed to make a purchase. My sales Summerville (AWESOME!) From the minute I walked in till I left I felt comfortable and well informed, I was not rushed to make a purchase. My sales person was Michael, he was very well informed took his time and never pushed me to buy. I know we all have experienced pushy salespeople but thankfully that was not the case here. I found the car I was interested in , it had some issues but Michael and I came up with a plan and they were addressed and completed to my satisfaction and in a timely manner. I will be honest I was a little concerned on some previous reviews but after talking with Michael D.I knew I was in good hands. This business is heading in the right direction keeping your customers happy and always addressing any issues, from the beginning to years down the road. I have been in customer service for well over 25 years, when businesss are good give them the high 5's when not so good give them your honest review it will only make them better! I highly recommend the company and will keep future buyers updated on my car purchase. More
I purchased my car from them and received a lifetime warranty. The true warranty is when you have a problem their service department can not fit you in and when you call your saleperson or the sales man warranty. The true warranty is when you have a problem their service department can not fit you in and when you call your saleperson or the sales manager for help they do not return calls either. They were really friendly until the car was sold. Since then they were horrible. Will not recommend them. More
Bought a vehicle for my daughter last year 3 months later we started to hear a noise from under the hood. She took back to have checked out, it was the water pump, which was covered. They had a rental brough we started to hear a noise from under the hood. She took back to have checked out, it was the water pump, which was covered. They had a rental brought to us and when it was finished they returned it for us. Cost for repair was $112, $100 ( the deductible per repair) and $12 because they called and asked about replacing the belt and I opted to do that. The experience was good enough I purchased a vehicle a few months later for myself. More
