I had a very disappointing experience with Autonation today. I negotiated a price with Nik Gingrich on a gently used Nissan Sentra and, after reaching an agreement, signed a document confirming the ag today. I negotiated a price with Nik Gingrich on a gently used Nissan Sentra and, after reaching an agreement, signed a document confirming the agreed-upon price and the terms of the sale. I was prepared to purchase the vehicle for cash and was making arrangements to go to the dealership to complete the transaction. Before we could get there, however, we were informed that the Sentra had been sold to someone else. What made the situation even more troubling was that, immediately afterward, we were told that the dealership could sell us a new car instead. That struck me as exceptionally questionable. We had negotiated and agreed upon a specific used vehicle, signed documentation, and were prepared to complete the cash transaction. Then, before we could arrive, we were told the vehicle was gone--but conveniently, they could sell us a new vehicle. I understand that dealerships sell cars and that vehicles can move quickly. But if a vehicle has already been committed to a customer, negotiating a price and signing documentation creates a reasonable expectation that the dealership will honor that commitment. If the dealership had no intention of holding the vehicle, that should have been made clear from the beginning. Instead, I was left with the distinct impression that the dealership was more interested in turning the situation into a different, potentially more profitable sale than honoring the deal we had already negotiated. After more than 20 years of experience in real estate, I understand the importance of honoring agreements and treating customers fairly. Your word, your commitments, and the documents you ask customers to sign should mean something. This experience left me feeling that my time and business were not respected. I would strongly encourage anyone considering doing business with this dealership to get everything in writing and make sure they fully understand whether the vehicle they negotiated for is actually being held for them. Based on my experience today, I would not recommend this dealership. More
