I recently purchased a used Hyundai Sonata from Toyota of Libertyville (AutoNation), and my experience has been very disappointing. From the start, the sales process felt like a game. When I first inquire Libertyville (AutoNation), and my experience has been very disappointing. From the start, the sales process felt like a game. When I first inquired about the vehicle, I was told there was no room to negotiate because the dealership was “already losing money” and shown a list of supposed costs. Yet after the weekend, the price of the vehicle was lowered online by $500. I was also promised window tint if I purchased the car, only for the dealership to backtrack and say I’d have to pay $400 for it (after previously claiming it was a $600 value). Only after I pressed them did they finally agree to honor the tint at the new advertised price. The finance process was equally frustrating — extremely pushy with upselling on add-on insurance I didn’t want and took hours of waiting. The finance manager recited his pitch like a robot so quickly that I had to interrupt him to slow down. After I declined, he went into the classic ‘what if we cut the price in half?’ speech. It felt manipulative and made the entire process exhausting. The worst issue has been after the sale. I needed a very simple 19-point inspection form completed (a form that would take one minute to fill out, confirming the vehicle was in good condition at the time of sale). I first emailed Ramiro, the salesperson, on 8/28, and followed up multiple times before finally being directed to Finance Manager Eric. I had to wait days just to get his email address. By that point, two weeks had gone by with no help. When I finally reached Eric, he told me he couldn’t help because I’d already had the car for a month — despite the fact that my request was timely but ignored. Instead, he said I could bring the vehicle in and pay $196 for the inspection. When I reasonably asked if they could just backdate it to my purchase date, he chose not to respond. After I followed up again, he dismissed me with: “I have already expressed to you what I can do.” This level of customer service is unacceptable. I had just purchased a car from them, yet they wanted to charge me nearly $200 for a basic form they could have filled out in minutes, while ignoring my emails and acting dismissive. Ramiro was polite but slow to respond; Eric, however, was rude and unhelpful. Overall, this dealership plays games with pricing, pressures customers during finance, and provides poor follow-up once the sale is complete. I would not purchase from Toyota of Libertyville again, and I would caution others to think twice before doing business here. More
