Dealer Doesn't Like Honoring Warranty I own a 2013 Hyundai Elantra which is still covered under warranty. When I purchased said car the salesman explained to me that the warranty covers things that aren't considered normal maintenance such as an oil change or tune up. Before I moved to Savannah I lived in Texas and took my car to the local Hyundai dealership there and never had any issues. I would call them, explain my car's problem, bring my car in, they'd fix it AND clean AND vacuum my car before returning it to me. On 5/12 my car wouldn't start so I contacted the Savannah Hyundai dealership for the first time and explained the issue. Two of their service technicians told me I would have to pay a diagnostic fee in the amount of roughly $120 despite the fact that my car was still under warranty. I put up a fuss and finally a manager from the dealership called me back and told me not to worry and to bring the car in. Now, in addition to the car not starting, there were some cosmetic issues I asked them to look at, and some mechanical issues I described, namely the climate control knobs had their paint peeling off them and the car engine was running very rough whenever the A/C was on and at two points in the past month while driving the car lost engine power briefly. Hyundai Savannah kept the car until Saturday before a technician texted me and told me the car needed a new battery. I inquired as to the cost, and the technician told me $123.69 plus tax. I told Hyundai to go ahead, and asked about any of the other issues I'd described happening. The technician only told me the paint on the climate control knob wasn't covered under warranty. When I picked my car up on Monday, 5/15, the total cost of a new battery came out to $162.10, which is a far cry from the price I was originally quoted. Turns out Hyundai Savannah charged $25 labor to install the battery, and some "misc charge" totaling $4.49. According to the August 2015 report from the KCRA, mechanics charge between $80-100 per hour for labor. For those of you who have never done this, replacing a battery takes maybe ten minutes and that is counting the time it takes for you to find the right screwdriver. It is literally four bolts that you unscrew, two clips you disconnect by hand, then you lift the old battery out, put the new battery in, reconnect the clips, and finally screw the bolts back in. I am irritated that the price I was quoted was very inaccurate. I am irritated that when I brought it up with the cashier at Hyundai Savannah she replied matter of factly "Labor is always a charge." I specifically asked what the price would be and labor or misc. fees were never mentioned - assuming your customers know your billing practices is a great way to irritate the people keeping you in business. As if that wasn't frustrating enough, NONE of the other issues I'd mentioned were addressed. Not the engine vibrating, not the engine losing power while driving, not the paint peeling off the climate control console or the plastic popping out of the central console. The car wasn't washed, hadn't been vacuumed, was left sitting in the sun without the sun guard placed back in the window, and to top all of that off for some reason now my tinted windows are messed up. When I took that car in there and dropped it off my tinted windows looked like any other tinted windows, however now when you sit inside the car and look out any of the tinted windows there's a purple/blue color you can see (think of how oil looks when it's in a puddle on the ground and reflecting light - that's what it looks like you're looking through). If you need actual work go find a local mechanic on Yelp. If you need work and your Hyundai is still under warranty, drive to another city. This dealership left me with the impression that they would do anything to get out of honoring warranty repairs and would do the bare minimum to get you off their backs. TLDR: Customer service is nice, everything else is horrible. More
