We traded a 2010 Honda Odyssey Touring for a 2011 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite (with all the bells and whistles). I was very lucky to find one that was going to be built and was on 11/13/2010. A brand spanking newly built Elite. I was notified every step of the way, from when this baby took its first steps to date of shipping to arrival at Desert Honda in Las Vegas, Nevada. We felt a bond, almost motherly, in our relation to this vehicle which now is sitting very pretty in our garage. Now for the meat and potatoes of what I am trying to say: We have purchased over the years several cars from several places, in different states, and rarely and I mean exactly that, have we ever got a good deal. The greed exhibited by this industry the majority of the times we have shopped for a new car defies description. The long hours waiting idly for the circus around to try to squeeze as much "moola" out of your wallet as physically possible, the retractions and new conditions than the ones already discussed, all of that and more has always cost us one way or the other. No mercy, take no prisoners attitude, that I, for one, had grown to despise. Gregg Smith from Desert Honds (Internet Sales Manager) did the unthinkable, the totally unexpectedly for us, all meant in a good way. The reason why we wanted to trade the 2010 for the 2011 newly redesigned, loaded with technology like no Honda before, was because we knew we would have to pay for either one for a long time and after rattles on the driver's door, and a few other minor gripes we decided to change immediately and hope for the best. We took a beating in the trade off to the tune of almost 7K but we knew this would happen. But to my surprise we contacted Gregg Smith early in the game (we had bought an 2008 Accord for a family member so we knew of him that way) and asked for prices and discounts being a USAA member. He efficiently sent me that same day an email (we live un Utah around Hurricane so that's about 2 hours plus in distance) with an appraisal of the possible deal. The discount at that time was awesome considering that this particular vehicle is in high demand. The colors were perfect for us (Black outside, Truffle inside) and of course no extra options were available for it had everything. The 2010 we had was costing us quite a bit more than this one was going to cost. The dealer where we purchased the 2010 and by far one of worst, in our opinion, had given us a high ARP and charged every possible penny they could get their grubby hands into. No mercy, no class. I even had gone to this same dealer (being the only one available close to our home) and asked about the Elite before I even contacted Desert Honda and the reply was that this vehicle was not expected until early 2011 where they probably be getting just one Elite and therefore there would be no discounts at all. Just letting me know that one more time if I purchased from this greedy outfit they were going to squeeze up to the last drop. Almost scary so contacted Gregg Smith who got into his Honda Website and informed me they were getting only one in 2010. Even though we lost 7K plus on the difference, the deal we received from Gregg at half the APR made it possible to change, possibly for the better, from the 2010 to the 2011. His word is his bond. What he agrees with you via email, phone, regarding the transaction never varies. No hanky panky, no sly maneuvers once you arrive to finish what you started. Not one single hot red cent added so one can stop stressing. In and out in 30 minutes, maybe a little bit more. I am not saying that the whole Desert Honda abides by this code of conduct, for I did notice quite a large sales force. All I am saying that dealing with Gregg Smith can be the difference between feeling pretty relieved and content at the same time or dealing with the unsavory character that are well known in this industry. Yes, I wrote a book but this guy (always wears like a cowboy hat and I thought that was extra cool) is a straight shooter, highly efficient and does not waver from the pre arranged price once it is agreed on. They run the credit and the rest is all down hill. Do forgive me if I wrote this much but, seriously, this experience renewed my faith in the simple concept of a bond made with someone's word. Gregg Smith is a rare commodity and anyone thinking on buying a Honda and may travel to Nevada I would urge them to contact Gregg Smith, at least to check it out. Sometimes driving 150 miles can mean the difference between taking downright abuse or be treated with dignity and respect. Crap! THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE WORLD! DON'T BUY CARS FROM THEM. A HGUE MISTAKE. I bought my brand new CRV on Monday and already had to take it in for alarm problem and alignment problem. The car was BRAND NEW, only 3 miles when I drove off the lot. When I brought the car back and asked for some sort of compensation (1/2 tank of gas since I live 20 miles from the dealership and already had to go back 3 times since my purchase). There was absolutely NO customer service at all. They said that I bought the car for too cheap, there's no room to give me anything, not even 1/2 tank of gas just to show how sorry they are for selling me a lemon and I had to go back 3 times in 5 days. 0 compensation and they aren't even sorry for me had to take it in. When my husband tried to argue and reason with them about offering me 1/2 tank of gas, the word from the sales person, Pat Cassini, was "give up, you are not getting anything from us". When does customer service only being offered when you overpay or let them make $ off you. So, if I was dumb enough to overpay my car at this dealership, does it mean that I will get the red carpet treatment because there's room to give me something? And when Pat Cassini, the internet manager was trying to make the deal, he said all the things that they'd offer and give us, and when it's time to sign the deal, offers were gone. The story changed quickly from offering window tinting to "I was saying I am not going to charge you because I am not going to give you the window tinting". Really? Did these people learn or have any training on how to speak to customers? They have absolutely no idea how to treat customers. They make you feel like they are doing you a favor when you purchase a car from them, since the sales manager told me that I am not the only customer out there, why give me anything for less. crazy people More
