Overall, we are not happy with our purchase experience from the Autonation at the Gulf Freeway location, here’s the main info as to why:

 We purchased a pre-owned Suburban for around $45k in July ’22 an from the Autonation at the Gulf Freeway location, here’s the main info as to why:

 We purchased a pre-owned Suburban for around $45k in July ’22 and traveled from Austin to Houston to pickup the Suburban (it was the only model that had features we were looking for in the nearby Texas area).

 The salesman we spoke initially was aware of us making the longer trip to purchase the vehicle and when asked if there were any issues (so we don’t waste our time/money) with the vehicle we were told there were no issues. 

Issue #1
 We drove to Houston to purchase the vehicle and the first issue that we noticed was that none of the tires had TPMS sensors installed and we were given a random excuse about why it was like that. 
The vehicle also had a very strong cleaner smell to it that I assumed was just from being detailed before a buyer came in.

 When I spoke with the salesman about the TPMS issue and asked for a reasonable request of taking some money off the purchase price or replace the TPMS sensors I was told that they cannot do that and that it’s not a major issue so that’s why it wasn’t disclosed. 
TPMS sensors are a safety feature and it’s the warning for them goes off every time you start the car on the dashboard so I didn’t agree about the reasoning but we already made a 3-hour roadtrip so I went ahead with the purchase.

 Issue #2
 When we drove home to Austin we unfortunately went past Autonation’s 250-mile no questions asked return policy because as a day or two went on after the purchase, we found out why the car originally smelled so strongly of cleaner - it was a smoker’s car and the cigarette/smoke smell began to just get stronger and stronger as the cleaner they used started to wear off.
 We had the car professionally cleaned and even had ozone generator treatments made on the vehicle and the smell didn’t subside enough for us to be happy about the purchase especially because this was now issue number two that wasn’t disclosed to us.

I attempted to reach out to the salesman and manager about the issues and they advised that they were not able to make an exception on the return policy and the best they could do was have us drive the vehicle back to Houston and have it cleaned again and do ozone treatment. I explained that we already did both of those so driving another six hours roundtrip was not worth that.

 The manager then said they might be able to let us trade the Suburban in for a different one that suited out needs but it would have to be at their dealership or nearby for this to work.
We thought that was a reasonable solution so we were told to keep searching Autonation’s site for new vehicles coming in.
 We searched for about a month and half and everything they had was a lower spec, higher mileage (by a large amount), or more expensive vehicle. I asked the salesman and manager again if they could simply reimburse/credit us for the TPMS sensor replacement (manager mentioned this previously) since we went ahead and had that fixed and the cleaning services then we can be done with any further solutions - neither person responded back to us after multiple weeks.

 I’m amazed that Autonation couldn’t make an exception on the return policy given the circumstances - when we brought up issue #1 we were at the dealership and when we brought up issue #2 were at around 300 miles since purchase (50 miles over the policy). 

Issue #3 
This is a minor issue but yet another one that wasn’t disclosed to us so I feel it’s worth mentioning. The vehicle was listed as the Midnight Edition which includes black exterior chevy emblems and black wheels. The vehicle is not a Midnight edition as we found out the emblems were just coated in black plastidip that started to peel off after a couple of weeks. The wheels were also not black but chrome and I was told when the TPMS issue was brought up that they were replaced.

 So in short, we were sold a vehicle that had multiple issues that were not disclosed and only after I had to explain to a manager, our best options given were to buy a vehicle that doesn’t exist (one that is similar to what we bought) or spend more on something newer.
 I would not recommend purchasing a pre-owned vehicle from this dealership and they left a poor buying experience for me with any Autonation - I won’t be using Autonation ever again. More
