Audi Silver Spring takes every customer concern seriously and investigates every concern brought to our attention. This vehicle came into our shop with 25,000 miles on it. The “normal” range of mileage to expect between brake replacements is 18,000 to 30,000 miles and will vary based on driving habits. Brakes require replacement when they are worn to a point below the recommended thickness. The brake pads on this car were measured to be 4 millimeters (mm). Audi recommends advising the customer of near replacement measures on the brake pads at or below 5mm. Maryland State Inspection standards are designed for all cars and do not take vehicle manufacturer recommendations into account. Maryland State Inspection standards for brakes require replacement when pads are worn to 2/32” or less which equates to just under 3mm. Therefore, according to Maryland State Inspection standards the brakes probably had 5,000 miles or so of life left, however, according to Audi standards the brakes had reached the end of their useful (safe) life. It appears that the service advisor inadvertently missed mentioning to the customer the $100 on line coupon. We apologize for that oversight and we have put steps in place to prevent that from reoccurring again. Our service manager, Mike Cohen spoke to Chipman54 yesterday and addressed these issues with the customer directly.
