An Insult To My Intelligence! My husband and I took our daughter to look at a vehicle Antwerpen had on their lot. Our salesperson invited us inside so that he could present us with some additional information to include the Carfax. Everything was looking good until we started to talk about the price; which was advertised online for $15,788.00. I was well aware that MD State sales tax, tag, title, and dealer processing fee (which is not required by law) would have to be added to the price... the price that we would NEGOTIATE. Our salesperson, of whom I do not have anything negative to say, presented us with the vehicle Carfax. Then we were asked what we wanted to do. I then gave him a price and let him know that I would make the check out right then...no need to take extra time to see if we "qualified" to purchase the car. He immediately said no way, that the online price was the least they could take. I jokingly asked him what happened to haggling the price and told him that they were taking all of the fun out of buying a car. I knew that Carmax was known for their "no haggle price", but nowhere did I read the price listed online, was their bottomline price. Our salesperson then started the typical spiel...showed us the NADA, the amount that a bank would lend on the vehicle, what the true cost was and how they came up with the price. The salesperson showed us a worksheet with the price, $15,788.00, that brought us to the dealership in the first place; and tried to tell us that they have MORE then that in the car. Then ADDED another $695.00 for "Reconditioning" and $2595.00 for "MD State Inspection (MSI); and of course, tax, tag, title, and dealer processing fee. The "true" purchase price of the car ended up being $19,178.00!!!! My husband and I looked at one another puzzeled. I said to him, "so you are telling me that the car required almost $2600.00 to pass inspection and cost them almost $700.00 to clean the car? The car must have been pretty dirty!" He went on to try to explain what all reconditioning entails..cleaning, buffing the paint, blah, blah, blah. He went on to tell us that he was not saying the car required that much for inspection, but they take the cost of ALL of their vehicles and average the amount, then add that amount to EVERY car they sell ($2595.00)!!! The salesperson and I went back and forth when I challenged him and told him that I was in the Finance Business and I know that dealers go by "Dealer Blackbook" when purchasing cars, and what it takes to get a car ready to sell and it does not cost $695.00 to clean a car; if that was the case, they are getting ripped-off! I understand they are in the business to make money and I undertsand that and I am fine with that, but he could not tell me they have more in the vehicle than $15,788.00! The salesperson asked what we wanted to pay to make the deal. I gave him an amount and told him I would write out the check out right now if they would take that amount. He said he didn't think that would be possible, but he would talk to his manager. After about 10 minutes, the salesperson returned and told us they would take the amount I gave him and would take off the $695.00 reconditioning fee but the MSI would have to be included in that price, and of course tax,tag, etc. I told him we didn't want to waste anymore of his time and thanked him for his time, but there was no way I was paying that. I guess they thought we were idiots! I am not claiming to be a genius but admit I do have access and knowledge from the business that I am in, but taking the "average" of the inspection costs of ALL of the vehicles that they sell, is no way to do business. This vehicle may not have required anything to pass inspection; therefore, only costing them the inspection fee that their inspector charges; but charging me for their car buyer(s) negligence in purchasing good cars, is no way to do business! Pleae don't insult my intelligence!! More

Service on Prius V Electronic Display BEWARE, A couple months ago the electronic display on our Prius were acting up (not working intermittently). Took it in for review, after a few hours BEWARE, A couple months ago the electronic display on our Prius were acting up (not working intermittently). Took it in for review, after a few hours I was informed that I needed a new extension box and navigation update to the tune of over $900. Went home and talked it over with my wife. Called back a couple days later to the service rep and left a message that I wanted to go ahead and order the part which I had been told would take about 3 days to get. When I called back a week later I was told that the part was ordered. Called back after another week and left another message. Never heard from them. Since we were planning a vacation out of town we made an appointment at another dealership yesterday. While at the check-in office, the rep called a technician in who listened to the problem. He said let him try something. He left and came back in less than 10 minutes and said he loaded 8 updates and problem solved. NO CHARGE. Thank goodness Antwerpen did not call me back. They would have taken me for the unneeded $900. Obviously in the couple hour they had the car they did not even try the update. They either have incompetent techs or are looking for the top $$$$. DARCARS TOYOTA in Frederick now has my business. More
