Experienced the stereotypical Dealership treatment The following is an email I sent to the General Manager of Bayside Nissan on Dec. 10. The have not responded as of today (December 22). ******* On N The following is an email I sent to the General Manager of Bayside Nissan on Dec. 10. The have not responded as of today (December 22). ******* On November 22, I came into Bayside Nissan and purchased a 2014 Sentra. However, my experiences both during the purchase and since have not been that positive. After taking some time to think about things, I have chosen to write so you'll know what I experienced. I was originally looking at a 2014 Nissan Sentra on Truecar, but when I looked online, I saw Bayside was offering a lower initial price than I got from TrueCar. I went in (armed with some TrueCar quotes as well). I met with a sales facilitator, Alex, and told him I had the Truecar quote. He took the info to the sales manager (Tiffany), who came over and said "we don't have those cars in stock, these are similar models"... now the only reason I had gone to Bayside to start with is, since the Truecar quote came back showing the color scheme I wanted, I assumed they had it. When I mentioned this, the she appeared to get a little huffy and acted annoyed that she had to repeat herself about how TrueCar.com doesn't always guarantee your desired vehicle in stock. I was more taken aback by the attitude than the fact the car I was looking at wasn't in stock. I'll admit I wasn't looking for a common car - I was looking at a no option package SV in blue with the marble grey interior. I then asked about the particular car I had seen online. She went to her desk, did some research, and came back, saying "We don't have that one (A Sentra SV), but we do have the Sentra S in that color. Now if I'd wanted an S, I would have asked for that, not the SV. That is issue #2. She did bring printouts on both the S and SV model to me, saying the S was the Ad/Sale car, (written on the sheet in big, bold letters), and the SV I asked about wasn't on sale. I pulled out my phone and checked, found the SV I was referring to, and asked her the difference between the SV she showed me and the one online. After a little consideration (and verifying the VIN/Stock number), she agreed they were the same car.. We finally got to the business of negotiating when issue 3 occurred. I don't buy cars often, so I was trying to figure out how agreed upon price was suddenly jacked up by 3,000 dollars. She flew through the figures the first time, and when I told her I didn't follow, she again got a little impatient, and went over them slightly slower, but there was still an air of annoyance from her, or so it seemed. Finally we got to finance, and yes, issues there as well. I asked their Finance manager (Steve) to run the numbers 2 ways. One promotion was $2,000 rebate at whatever rate I qualify for, and the second was $1,000 rebate at 0.0%... he gave me the 0.0% quote, and then said something along the lines of "with interest, it might be 7-10 dollars more a month" but never actually ran the figure. Then, more recently, I sent an email to Steve on Dec. 5 asking for the name and address of Nissan's in house finance company (which I needed for insurance purposes). As of today (5 days later), I have not gotten a response from him. I did get the answer to my question when my first statement/payment due information arrived yesterday. I did stop by Bayside a few days after to drop off the Lein Release (which I'd left at home on the date of purchase having seen the "This is not a title" on the document. I spoke with Alex for a moment, and mentioned that I probably could have gotten a nicely loaded Versa SL with navigation for about the same cost as the Sentra, and only sacrificed a little power. Instead of saying something along the lines of "I'm sorry you feel you missed out, but the Sentra (fill in reasons Sentra SV is good)", it seemed like he didn't care, with a response of "It's a lot of power". The best I can say about Bayside is while they did gain the sale (as they had the car I was looking at at the initial price I wanted), they did not gain a customer. If people could return new cars within the first week no questions asked, trust me, the car would have been returned based on the level of service I was provided. I understand that once the contract is signed and the car is driven off the lot, there are no returns, and I'm fine with that.. but if I could, I would have.. I'm not sure what, if anything, you will do with this information, but, as noted at the start, I simply wanted to let you know my experience was not a good one. More

Mr. Coiro handed me off to the financial office which I received great service to completion of handing over the keys to my new 2014 Nissan Rogue. Unlike some other dealerships, pricing information was presented upfront for me to review without pressure. After a couple visits I left with a great deal on a new car and was surprised how much I enjoyed the process. Of course I loved my new Nissan too! More

I truly did not see myself making the purchase right then and there. However, after spending 30 minutes with Dallas in conversation and realizing that we were probably going to be able to make a deal. I didn't see any other reason to visit another dealership in the area. The vehicle was for my 17-year-old daughter and nothing makes a father happier than seeing his daughter smile.
