Deceptive prices, forced financing, and mechanical problems I bought a CPO VW TDi Sportwagon from Alexandria VW in February 2019, and nothing went right with the purchase. First, when sitting down to start the I bought a CPO VW TDi Sportwagon from Alexandria VW in February 2019, and nothing went right with the purchase. First, when sitting down to start the purchase, I was told the sticker did not include a $900 "CPO fee." The salesperson claimed "all CPO dealers charge this fee," but having done some shopping at other dealers I knew this wasn't true - got them to drop this pretty quickly. Next, I was told that they'd only honor the price if I purchase with VW financing. After more negotiating they said, "OK, we'll do a cash sale, but will still need to run a credit check." When I sit down to sign the paperwork, they'd already setup the loan application. I caved, took the loan, and paid it off a ~10 days later when I got the first statement from VW Credit. In the end this was a minor cost - about $15 in finance charges - but I didn't appreciate the dealer's strong-arm tactics. Finally, while on the drive home (first highway drive in this car), I noticed a vibration in the steering wheel. Before I got home the check engine light was on, and I noticed a storage compartment was full of water! So much for the dealer's "100+ point CPO inspection." More
