I came in for an oil change. My engine light was on. The lady asked me if I wanted it checked to see what the problem was and I said yes but don't fix anything until you call me My engine light was on. The lady asked me if I wanted it checked to see what the problem was and I said yes but don't fix anything until you call me because it is a company truck and other than the oil change I have to ask permission .She never once said it would be $160 to see what was causing the light. I really only bring the truck in to get the oil changed and admittedly I am not very savvy about how pricing works in the service department. Being ignorant I assumed that it would be plugged into a computer and then I would get a call asking if I would like the item repaired and I would not be charged for a simple diagnosis. Also being my fault, I did not check the paper I signed before the service. So I guess you got me. The service lady never offered any information that checking the engine light would be $160 or I would have said no thank you. You would think she would have let me know that that was not a free estimate, as it would have been if I would have asked for an estimate on my brake repair. So lesson learned the hard way. I need to be on my toes when I am at your service department and not take anything for granted. Or Just bring the truck someplace else for service where maybe they're a little bit more forthcoming. More
