Finishing the paperwork was excruciatingly slow for a cash deal. We were in dealership 3 hours for no reason other than paperwork, for the deal had been agreed on earlier in the day. The high pressure tactic to try to close the deal in the morning nearly backfired. It was patently obvious that it made far more sense for me to return later with the trade than it would be to have the new car and the car I was driving at the dealership while the trade in was at home. Plus the money for the purchase was at home too. These kind of pressure tactics really annoy me. A similar situation resulted me in walking out of Greico Mazda years ago and I have never returned. Having said that, while not as unpleasant, it keeps AH in line with other car dealers in being an ordeal instead of a pleasure. In the end I came to AH solely because a rare purchase opportunity arose, and not because I chose AH as a place to buy a car. Ironically, AH's admirable decision to have the Lincoln dealership service the car had the potential to do more harm than good, for they incorrectly serviced the cooling system and the engine overheated on the test ride. I immediately stopped the test ride and went back. Someone else may not have been so observant and continued the drive or even bought the car that way. That is why I do all maintenance on my cars myself. The car itself has been great and meets my expectations. More
