Rip off artists don't even know their own internet pricing I went to Thornton Road Hyundai in April 2015 based on the fact that they had listed new 2015 Sonatas through several on-line car review/pricing servi I went to Thornton Road Hyundai in April 2015 based on the fact that they had listed new 2015 Sonatas through several on-line car review/pricing services at a reasonable discount. As a busy professional, I don't have the time for extended and ridiculous "negotiations" on car price. I looked at the car I was interested in and they gave the usual line "if we can get you the price you need tonight, are you willing to sign on it and purchase it today?". I was buying a car that week, so I said "Yes, as long as you don't waste my time and come back with a real bottom line offer price." The sales person went away for about 15 to 20 minutes and came back with the line "We worked hard on it and were able to get the price down almost $2000 from MSRP. Are you ready to sign?" I quickly informed him that we were nowhere close on price. I told him that they had competition from other Hyundai dealers who were listing cars at larger discounts and from competitors like Toyota who were marking down new Camry's between $4000 and $6000 dollars. He went off for another 10 to 15 minutes and came back and said "Well, we managed to get you a great deal and got it down to $2500 off MSRP. Is that acceptable." I had finally had enough. I informed him that in wasting almost a collective 1.5 hours of my time at that point that he and his "manager" had managed to come to a "bottom line price" that did not even match the price they were offering on-line. He asked me what I was talking about and I pulled out the internet price they were running on Edmunds which was a little more than $3400 off MSRP. He at first said, well that must be a different dealer and a different car. I told him to take a look at the dealer name. He was shocked to see that it was his dealership. He then gave excuses that it wasn't the exact same Sonata we were discussing. I agreed, and given that the car I had picked had more options, it had even more markup and room or reduction in price. He then had the audacity to tell me that maybe I should go down to Toyota, because they had to mark down their cars so much because they were an inferior product. I actually laughed in his face, a Hyundai dealer calling what is ranked as perhaps the most reliable auto on the market as inferior. This dealership is unfortunately the stereotypical "let's see how much we can take advantage of you" dealer who has no interest in selling cars for a fair price. If you go to this dealer, you better go armed with data on what their cars should really be selling for or you will certainly come away being ripped off. I wouldn't set foot again in that dealership if you paid me. Hyundai's loss, I did go the next day down the street to Toyota and purchase a fully loaded Camry XLE. More
