This is an update to my posting a few months back. I bought a truck sight unseen, dealing with them from Alaska. I asked the salesperson a million questions about the truck as I was concerned. One big bought a truck sight unseen, dealing with them from Alaska. I asked the salesperson a million questions about the truck as I was concerned. One biggie: rust. I asked her to check some very specific places like the rocker panels, fenders, etc. Her response a day later: "no rust anywhere, you're gonna love this truck". I also asked about the little things, power mirrors, stereo, heated seats, power locks, etc. "Everything works perfectly, and it will go through our shop before you get it and any problem WILL be fixed." So here's what showed up in my driveway.... a truck with rusted out rocker panels(you can put your hand right through them), rust on the fenders that none of their photos showed, badly dented tube steps, broken stereo, broken heated seats, power door locks don't function correctly, and the power mirrors don't work. A handful of unreturned calls to my wonderful salesperson, then I turned to BBB. We filed a report and got some really stupid replies from the dealer, never willing to address the bold face lies I was told. After going back and forth with them, no resolution was reached, they were unwilling to concede anything, even though I easily lost about $5000 in the deal. The BBB told me to contact the Connecticut DMV. When I called and told the lady my problem, her response was "we already know all about A Better Way and have an investigation alredy underway". They took my case, but in the end they told me it was a civil matter that they wouldn't be able to pursue with me. At the same time, they were shocked at the photos of the truck I sent to them. It's been months since I bought this truck, but it hurts me to think of other folks going through what I did, so I needed to write another review. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!! I have a very tight budget and it's gonna take years to get over the burn from this experience. More
I spent like a whole day at A Better Way and they claimed they had me "approved" and had me call my insurance company to fax them an id card, had me write all my references out, then out of no where they had me "approved" and had me call my insurance company to fax them an id card, had me write all my references out, then out of no where this dude Joe tells me they bank said they needed $1500 more to make the deal work on top of the $1700 I told them is all I had. I cant come up with this much so I told them to just give me my money back. Mind you this was less than an hour after I gave it to them and all of a sudden "the guy that gives refunds isnt here right now." I watched them put my 1700 in the desk drawer, why can you just hand it right back to me? IT TOOK 9 DAYS of me calling 5 - 7 times a day till they finally told me I can come get my money back. TRUST ME, STAY AWAY!!! More
Left a $1,000.00 check on the invoice that states it was REFUNDABLE last November 20, 2011, on a car I never purchased. As of TODAY, March 29, 2012, I have yet to receive the refund. I have called and spo REFUNDABLE last November 20, 2011, on a car I never purchased. As of TODAY, March 29, 2012, I have yet to receive the refund. I have called and spoken to Jule Caro ,he kept promising the check would be sent out, I would call back, then asked again.. after 2 months he asked me to send him a copy of my invoice. Now Dawn is "looking" into the paperwork. Still nothing. I feeI am being lied to. This operation is not professional and I am now filing a complaint with the better business bureau. More
We wanted to buy a Chevy ss...went to do the paper work filled out the credit check paper..that's the only form that we did. Then they said they would need to give them a deposit to hold the truck while th filled out the credit check paper..that's the only form that we did. Then they said they would need to give them a deposit to hold the truck while the credit report was done which was going to take up to 3days. They wouldn't take less then 1,000. My husband asked if it was refundable if we weren't able to get approved and the man said yes. In the mean time we found something else that we got instead. My husband went to get our thousand dollar deposit back and the man told him at that point that it was non refundable and that we just learned a very expensive lesson... Needless to say I got a lawyer..it's being handled..STAY AWAY More
I walked into this dealership because I read some good reviews. To my surprise, they are completely fake. (All the 5-star reviews made on the SAME day, over and over again, copied and pasted onto differ reviews. To my surprise, they are completely fake. (All the 5-star reviews made on the SAME day, over and over again, copied and pasted onto different websites with their reviews). Unbelievable. When I walked into a better way, I was greeted by a very articulate, personable, professional sales consultant named Nelson. He absolutely stood out from the rest of the sloppy, disrespectful crew there. While I was there, I overheard such rude language being yelled across the 'showroom'. It is as wild as the NY stock market. Even salespeople are trying to push out those customers who are trying to take their time. While I was there, customers were complaining about work that was not performed to their vehicles. They had owned the car for such a long time, yet it hadn't left the service department. This was a HUGE red flag. Then, during a customer dispute with salespeople named AMY and JIM, the police showed up. The manager, Mike began to threaten the customer, so the cops were necessary. Nelson was apologetic for this situation, offered me a beverage, and some popcorn, and sat me down at a desk. At this point, Nelson was constistently pressured by the most cliche'd used car slimeball salesman, named Johnny. My impression of A better way was very negative at this point. HOW IS THIS PLACE STILL FUNCTIONING? DO NOT DISRESPECT YOUR INTEGRITY BY BUYING YOUR VEHICLE HERE. The silver lining, was Nelson. Although I did not end up buying a car from A better way, Nelson really showed a high level of professionalism. Obviously he stuck out, as he was honest, personable, and NOT IGNORANT, unlike EVERYONE else in that dealership. If you MUST go here, you MUST ask for Nelson, but I still recommend to stay away. More
The customer service from David Robinson was ok, but the business itself is terrible, never have I called a business and had a phone answered so rudely, only one time out of the over 20 I called was the pho business itself is terrible, never have I called a business and had a phone answered so rudely, only one time out of the over 20 I called was the phone answered in a professional way!!! I was promised a car for more than 10 days and everyday there was more excuses why it could not be ready and I was even lied to about a part, they told me since they couldn't find one that they would machine, well I found out from 2 mechanics I know that the part cannot be machined!!! Stay away, definitely buy a car some place else!!! More
Thanks God and the persons who post their reviews here I had been avoiding a nightmare with this crooks, I was about to make a deal with them, I live in Long Island, NY it took me almost three hours to get had been avoiding a nightmare with this crooks, I was about to make a deal with them, I live in Long Island, NY it took me almost three hours to get there, cheap prices and fake pictures make the perfect bait. After reading the reviews I decide to look for something local and I found it, a reputable used car dealer, I'm so happy with the vehicle I choose. Just for curiosity I was trying to look into the A Better Way web page and I can't, it looks like it was probably shut down, these people cause a lot of damage, I feel bad for all that people who went into business with them and lost their money and their vehicles. This is the worst place to buy a car!!! Their cars are junk and their customer service is terrible. First they tried to sell me a car that did not look like the online picture and the price and the price junk and their customer service is terrible. First they tried to sell me a car that did not look like the online picture and the price and the price was different on the car than on the ad. The car had 3 busted windows and the power steering did not work. Than the second car I drove at first I was told that the car was sold by one person and than another sales person told me that it was not sold. I took it out for a test drive and even though the passenger door panel was sitting in the front seat, I loved the car. I was told that they fix everything that needed to be fixed. I put a down payment on the car and while I was waiting for my receipt I was than told that the car was indeed already sold. The sales girl Sue told me that there was an identical car to the one I drove in the shop and it was $2,000.00 cheaper. I could not see the car right away because I was told that it "all apart" and it was sitting on a lift. She said that I could the deposit on that vehicle instead and as soon as the car was ready I could test drive it.I was originally told that the car would be ready in 3 days which is was not because they were putting a new motor in it. Than a week went by and I was finally was able to look at the car on the lift but I was not able to drive it because they had to order a radiator. Also the radio was missing. In the meantime I noticed that the price of the car online went up $1000.00 from I saw before. Another week went by and I was told that the was ready for me to drive and take home. When we got to see the car we noticed that the antenna was gone the heat was not working, they put in some cheap radio they pulled out of another one of their vehicles on the lot and there was also a piece of the muffler missing. I was very disappointed. I really think that they did not want t sell me that car at that price so they purposely made the not sellable to me! The sales person tried to get me to buy a car that was more expensive. We decided to give her the benefit of the doubt one more time. She put in this car that she knew had bad brakes and the check engine light was on. The care was in terrible shape mechanically. I decided to get my deposit which I did pay cash for but I was that I could not have cash back so I had to settle for a check back. NEVER AGAIN WILL I STEP FOOT ON ONE OF THEIR LOTS OR IN THEIR OFFICE!!!! That office is out of control, there is no communication between the staff. THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE. THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES!! More
They are friendly, the prices are great. Theres a reason for that though. I bought a car for 6k less than book value, never recieved the car because I got sick of waiting around on false hopes and promises for that though. I bought a car for 6k less than book value, never recieved the car because I got sick of waiting around on false hopes and promises that my car would be ready. The car I purchased needed to be completely rebuilt. I am so happy I didnt actually go through with the purchase after waiting a month and a half. Chances are I would have been back and forth on mechanical problems. After waiting a month and a half I went and got my deposit back, and found a much better dealership with quality cars and im very pleased with my purchase now which only took 2 days. More
My experience is identical to those listed here. Only had my vehicle for 6months when EGR valve blew and of course, was not under the warranty. Three months later The truck broke down completely and was towe my vehicle for 6months when EGR valve blew and of course, was not under the warranty. Three months later The truck broke down completely and was towed to A better way in November 2011. Jay was "working" on it for two months, with multiple inconsistencies in his appraisal of the problem. Finally spoke to owner in January 2012 after several unreturned phone calls and asked him to rectify the problem and/or possibly offer some service recovery since they had the vehicle for 60 days already. I Stated that I did not want to make a complaint with DMV and then at that point he said he would tell the mechanic to stop working on the truck and "come and get the truck off my lot" because I was threatening him with a complaint. Mike told me it was my problem and take the truck elsewhere. Next day I showed up with a tow truck and towed it out to a reputable Ford mechanic who estimated the repair would run 6-9000$, partly because of what the mechanic did to the vehicle at A Better Way. A better way also left me with my radiator and various parts in a cardboard box in my passenger seat. I filed complaints with BBB, St of CT, and DMV. Unfortunately, after two additional months (2/28/2012) DMV has not responded to my complaint because they are currently involved in a major investigation against A Better Way. I have continued to make my monthly payments on a vehicle that is disassembled sitting at my mechanic now for over 3 months and will probably have to have the car repossessed because it is worthless. Even my mechanic said it is not worth fixing and my tow truck driver said the same situation happened to his brother. Wish I knew how bad this business ran in the first place before buying a $40,000 truck and ruining my credit. I work in customer service and can not believe the manner in which the owner spoke to me and also his grammar and lack of spelling ability in his BBB response to my dispute. More
