This has been a nightmare. - AshConnell
TL;DR version-My vehicle has had mechanical issues since the first week. These have yet to be fully repaired. These people do not return phone calls or text messages. Nor do they keep you informed or give you any paper work regarding repairs!
I have had the vehicle I purchased from them for less than two months. It has spent more time in the shop than it has with me.
I purchased a 2008 Mini Cooper on the 17th of April. The issues started on the 23rd of April with the engine overheating due to a coolant leak. I was told their mechanic would take care of the issue and they would call me when the vehicle was ready. Not only did the mechanic fail to fix the issue, but he left the cap off the coolant overflow tank. This was also on the 30th of April. I was not told what the problem was, nor given any paper work regarding the work done on the vehicle. They picked the vehicle back up the same day at my work place and left me with a loaner.
My vehicle was again returned to me on the 4th of May. I still was not given any information or paper work about the services done to the vehicle. At this point my automatic locks had stopped working and I was told by the dealer to replace the battery in the key fob. I did so but this did not fix the issue. On the 5th of May my check engine light came on. I called the dealer and was told to wait a couple days because this “sometimes happens after engine work”. After two days the check engine light was no longer present.
On the 10th of May the engine started overheating again as well as stalling and/or shaking violently while at an idle. After a stall the vehicle would not start up for at least thirty minutes. This occurred on a Sunday when the dealership was closed. Due to the vehicle being unsafe to drive due to stalling, I had to call into work. I brought the vehicle in Monday morning, the 11th of May, taking over an hour and a half as I continually pulled over every time the engine temperature spiked. I was forty-five minutes late to work this morning as the dealership did not open until after my scheduled shift at 9:00am and the dealer that I talked too was not present when I arrived even though I had informed him I would be there right at opening. I was also not given a loaner vehicle at this time, instead I was dropped off at my workplace and told I would be informed as to what the issue was later that afternoon. My shift ended at 2:00pm and I had not yet heard back from the dealer. As I had a second job which started at 3:30pm I called the dealer and was told to call back in fifteen minutes to speak to the manager that deals with the mechanic. When I called back and spoke to the manager I was told that he had just arrived at the dealership and was uninformed as to the situation, but he would call the mechanic and get back to me shortly. I waited about thirty minutes before I had to call into to my other job. I had a co-worker drop me off at the dealership at which point I was given a loaner and told that I wasn’t initially given one due to the morning management not knowing anything about the situation.
It took them three weeks to "fix" my vehicle this time. Meanwhile I was driving a loaner with messed up brakes and electrical systems. I was informed on the 2nd of June that my vehicle was ready to be picked up. When picking up the vehicle I directly asked the dealer what repairs had been done. He walked into the back and came back out a minute later saying that the manager that deals with the mechanic was not in, so he had no idea. I once again was not given any paperwork regarding the repairs done the vehicle.
On the 6th of June my engine light was once again triggered. I took my vehicle to O’Rielys auto parts shop to have the code read. The engine code was p2187-system too lean at idle bank 1. As I got the engine code read in the evening after closing hours, and the dealership is closed on Sundays, I called the dealer on the 8th of May at 11:51am. He told me that he would get in contact with the mechanic to schedule an appointment. I sent him the engine code via text message in an attempt to be helpful. By 1:49pm Tuesday, May 9th, he had not yet called me back. I sent him a text message asking what the mechanic said. He texted me back saying that if nothing was mechanically wrong with the car and it was just the O2 sensor it would be out of my pocket. He made no mention of a diagnostic visit despite the long list of problems that could trigger a p2187 code. At 2:22pm I sent him a screen cap from a Mini Cooper repair forum detailing all the issues that such a code could be pointing towards. At 3:30 I still had not heard back so I sent a text message demanding a diagnostic visit due to the previous engine failures and repair errors made by their mechanic. It is now 10:23pm on Tuesday, May 9th and I have not heard back from the dealership.
I fully intend on appearing in person tomorrow afternoon and raising a riot as well as pursing legal action against all individuals involved in this whole debacle if this issue cannot be resolved in a reasonable manner and time frame.
