Recommended specifically to this dealer by friend that is employed by VW credit. I was not surprised by his referral based on my experience. The staff was quite friendly (once we connected (read below). I did not have a specific appointment, but would have expected to be greeted sooner than I was. Even though I had a bit of a wobbly start to my Autobarn experience, it soon picked up steam. Cliff Nelson (Internet Sales) was extremely thorough and quick to counter any offer I made. Raffi came in to seal the deal and I was off in a CPO Jetta Wagon. I feel I was fortunate, as the vehicle has been owned by customers of this dealer exclusively, so all service has been done there and the car is mint. Had it not been for the lack of mp3 player input and other 2005-esque features, I would have sworn I was driving off the lot with an `09! The distinction between "pre-certified" and "certified" is a bit misleading, so be careful about where you begin your price negotiation. When comparing pricing on a pre-certified vehicle be sure to account for the additional expense to certify the car, somewhere between 1200-1500, depending on the vehicle. In spite of this minor aggravation, I can still say that I would not have gotten this car for a penny less at any other VW dealer (trust me, I tried). In fact, this deal was BEGAN hundreds lower than I was able to negotiate elsewhere on a comparable vehicle. I have not been in for service yet, but judging by the condition of this car, I will not be disappointed. I have already recommended a few friends and would do so over and over. I purchased a VW from Bill Jacobs in Naperville in 2004. While the experience there was nice, it paled in comparison to the Autobarn both in selection and customer service. More
I have leased a Phaeton from Autobarn for 4 years. During this period I had superior service from John Paul and built a confidence in the dealership. I enjoyed the car so much that I wanted to purchase it. C this period I had superior service from John Paul and built a confidence in the dealership. I enjoyed the car so much that I wanted to purchase it. Cliff and Raffi enabled me to have the car certified by Volkswagen and then purchase it at a competitive price with a warranty. I don't believe I would have recieved this type of opporunity with any other dealership. The certification price was affordable, the ease of making the transaction happen was terrific. The sale staff and management made me feel like they had my best interest in mind. I would reccomend this dealership to anyone looking for a vehicle. More
I became a customer of this dealership when i bought my 1st VW in 2006, It was a brand new Passat. The expierence was so awesome!! They answered each one of my questions and made sure I liked the car that 1st VW in 2006, It was a brand new Passat. The expierence was so awesome!! They answered each one of my questions and made sure I liked the car that i purchased. Because of that, I recently came back and purchased a 2009 CC Passat. Once again they were at their best!! They took care of my every need and made me feel like family. I returned the CC soon after just cause it was too much of a sporty ride for me, and I once again purchased a Passat, a 2009, and between Robert and Raffi, they made the deal so smooth. I definitley have already and will continue to reffer my friends and family to The Autobarn. I wish every dealer worked to their standards. Thanks GUYS! More
I went into this dealership couple of months back, looking for a used Touareg for my brother. The price was high, so I asked them if they were willing to negotiate. They brought in the manager for car looking for a used Touareg for my brother. The price was high, so I asked them if they were willing to negotiate. They brought in the manager for car sales talked to me for 30 mins totally unwilling to bring the car price a penny down. I was game with that...it's their car they can price it whatever they want. My brother got a good deal at Volkswagon in Melrose Park. Now few days back I went in again hoping I can get a good deal this time. I wanted to trade in my Jaguar. I ran into the same sales person. He was totally pissed at me for coming into the dealership since I had not bought the car from him last time. I told him, this time I am hoping I can make a deal. They came back after looking at my Jag and gave me a price. It was an unreasonable price, so I asked if they were willing to consider a different price. At this point the manager came from inside and shook our hand and told us to get out. I was totally shocked at his behavior. I thought customers came first. I saw rest of the other guys whom I had met on the earlier visit having a laugh at this. Totally unfriendly, no respect for customers. More
Dont know Diesels (TDI).. I brought mine in to have the timing belt changed.. I ended up paying $1009 for a job that should have costed no more then $650. I asked if a Inj. timing check was performed, I re timing belt changed.. I ended up paying $1009 for a job that should have costed no more then $650. I asked if a Inj. timing check was performed, I recieved a DEER IN HEADLIGHTS LOOK! My Inj. Timing is -6 deg retarted after the belt was installed.. Before it was advanced 2.4 deg. My car has absoutly no power what so ever because the timing is so retarted. I dont know what to do now because i refuse to take it back there. Maybe this is a good dealer for regular gasoline engines, but if you're the proud owner of a diesel, DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR THERE! If anyone would like proof of the timing mistake, i used Vag-Com to record the data. I also plotted out a graph to show. They also didnt connect the wastgate pressure line so, the turbo wasnt producing any Boost pressure. I also noticed a huge boost leak as well. So, i had to repair this myself, in my driveway after paying them over a grand...... More
It is a pity to give these guys a bad review as they really are professional. I actually REALLY like this service center. I live about 28 miles from them and could go to several other dealers who are really are professional. I actually REALLY like this service center. I live about 28 miles from them and could go to several other dealers who are much closer. For the record, I own a 2001.5 VW Passat.

However, results are what counts. Upon pickup from my 20K service, I noticed a dent on the outside frame of my driver's side door. While they repaired it for free, from the type of dent , the repair was just not right. To make matters worse, they made me feel as if I there was a chance I made this up (The door frame must have his something VERY heavy - you just have to see how and where it dented). And, in a clever move on the service advisor's part (Chris), he did not enter this in my record...I gather so I could not complain over the quality of the work if it was substandard in the future.

Nevertheless, as all other experiences have been great, I kept going to them for service. I figured anyone can make a mistake. THEN at my 40K service, another "mistake" happened. While rotating my wheels, the tech forgot to reattach TWO lugnuts on the driver's side rear wheel. AND ONE WAS THE ANTITHEFT LUGNUT!. Try replacing that unless you go to the dealer. The worst part of all of this is that I NEVER would have known unless I looked...and I never would have looked except I was replacing the stock tires and rims about 2 weeks after the service. So my family would have driven around on three lugnuts on that wheel for 10K miles until the next rotation...or until the wheel rolled off.

They once again were willing to pay for any damage/inconvenience (again, I live in downtown Chicago and they are about 28 mile NW so I did not want to risk driving there on 3 lugnuts for them to replace them). They were very nice and apologetic. They really DO try. However, both incidents within 40K make me question the quality control of their technicians and shop in general.

Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice, shame on me.....fool me three times and I may not be around to write another review.
