Hi Rachel--it looks like you've updated your review on Google and Facebook, but not yet here. While as a policy we don't do weekend holds, we do very much regret the way in which it was communicated by our sales management team. We are glad you gave us a second chance and came in to meet with our General Manager Jereme personally, and we are also glad that you were able to take home the vehicle you wanted. Your feedback is appreciated as it allowed us to improve your experience, and also that of others going forward.

When you came in to cosign for your friend Mohommad, we had already been working with him to select the 2016 Corolla. We publish all Carfax information for our used vehicles online, and make sure not to withhold any information. We don’t often sell a vehicle with any repair history, unless it was an exceptionally good vehicle and was repaired to certified specifications. Because it is published on the Carfax, that affects the price of the vehicle and it can work out to be a substantial discount for the buyer. This Corolla in particular had no frame damage and no airbag deployment, as per the published Carfax, and that is why our certification team decided it would be a good fit for our used vehicle selection--because again, we were able to pass along a discount. The papers you were signing included the Carfax, which we were reviewing with Mohommad as you noticed the damage report. That is why it is our policy to review and sign the Carfax prior to any sale—we would never purposely hide information. The paperwork we were reviewing with Mohommad was not the final paperwork, and it is certainly okay that you two did not wish to continue the sale at that point. However, because we ran a credit check on your information so that you could cosign, legally we have to retain your information (copy of drivers license and application) to prove when and why a credit check was run. That is why we were unable to give you those papers back. They are kept for the required amount of time, then shredded and disposed of securely. I am truly sorry that the situation escalated and our employees felt threatened enough to call the police, but I hope I was able to address your concerns here individually so that you can understand how and where the miscommunication occurred, and know that we did not intend for any ill will or a lack of transparency. If you have further questions or concerns you are welcome to reach out to me at Delilah@toyotaofirving.com or 972-258-1200 x2015.

Hello, and thank you for reaching out to us with your concern. I am truly sorry that our sales and finance teams didn't do a great job of explaining the options and benefits of our various packages to you. I've spoken with the managers in each department and what happened was a lack of communication between sales and finance, and I am very glad that you brought it up so we can ensure it won't happen again. I don’t have a short answer, but I’ll try to be as clear as possible: -There is an extended warranty offered by the distributor, the price varies by age and mileage of the vehicle but it would have been just under $1000 for your vehicle. That was the first warranty you were offered. -Separate from that, certain low-mileage Toyota vehicles can be "certified pre-owned", which happens through the manufacturer and costs our dealership $450. The certification is a guarantee that the vehicle has passed a comprehensive safety check with higher standards, and also includes an extended warranty. It does differ from the distributor warranty, one is not necessarily better than the other but their coverage limits do vary. -When you negotiated the price on your vehicle, it did not include certification. We do have customers that would rather not certify and would prefer to save the $450. The $450 charge was to officially make it a certified pre-owned Toyota. -You could have bought either one or both of these options. They can be combined, and the first one offered would have greatly extended the coverage of the second. -They struggled to find you a brochure for the second option because it’s online—we’ve since made it clear to our staff where to find the information and how to share it. Here’s a link: http://www.toyotacertified.com/warranty.html -When you called and spoke with our finance manager and he consulted other employees, he realized you didn’t get a clear and concise explanation of the options, and he decided in the interest of customer service to refund the $450 to you. By not explaining that, I think he inadvertently made things more confusing. In summary, you have a certified pre-owned Toyota, and we refunded the cost of certification to you. By using internet pricing you got a great deal, and this has substantially added to it. I feel terrible that what should be a celebratory event has resulted in confusion and mistrust, and I hope you’ll give us the chance to earn your confidence back. If you have any further questions or concerns I’ll gladly do my best to explain—contact me at delilah@toyotaofirving.com or 972-258-1200 x2015.
