Broke my Touareg, and wont fix it A month or so ago I took my 2010 Touareg to Tom Bush Volkswagen to pick up some parts. The Parts guy offered to take the parts to my car while I waite A month or so ago I took my 2010 Touareg to Tom Bush Volkswagen to pick up some parts. The Parts guy offered to take the parts to my car while I waited for the rest of the parts. Very nice of him. My Touareg has an automatic hatch that you just press a button and it opens/closes itself. The parts guy did not know it had this feature and forced it open and shut. On my way out I had my hands full and asked a salesman to hit the button. Told him clearly it would open itself, but he must not have been listening he continued to try to open it until I basically yelled at him. Hatch didn't work from there on out. I went back inside and asked the first guy if the hatch had opened for him, his answer was "I didn't know it had that on there". So we know for a fact that he forced it open, he admitted to it. I saw the second guy although it may have already been broken by then. Service manager Howard Smithson advises me that the failure was not due to opening it incorrectly. Could not tell me how it broke. All he could tell me was that it was designed to not fail if it was forced open. He quotes me $3200 Parts and labor. After some arguing, I get it out of him that there is a bypass valve that is SUPPOSED to bypass the fluid when it is being forced open. This is a hydraulic pump, two lines, and two struts. Pretty simple. So I get it out of him that the valve MIGHT have gone bad and when the guy there forced it it caused the pump to fail, but it was still not their fault and that it was defective prior. So I tell him that if that was the case then if the guy had opened it correctly and closed it correctly it would still be functional. He replies "That's all speculation". When all he has done is speculate on what might have cased it to fail, and completely ignoring the fact that it became damaged when an employee from his dealership forced it open. So after all the arguing he tells me he can wipe all the labor and sell me the "hydraulic pump" for $1600 at wholesale cost. I told him I had no intention on paying anything. By now I had had enough and hung up on him. I looked around for the hydraulic pump and come find out Tom Bush Volkswagen sells the pump at RETAIL for $289!!!!! So I call him back and tell him what i have found, he put me on hold for 5 minutes and comes back with now a second part that was being replaced. I know for a fact that there was never another part mentioned, it was always the pump that was the problem. only thing I can think of is, they like every dealership quoted up an entire system so that when their crappy diagnosis failed and the pump didn't fix it they had it in their budget to replace the whole system. This time he hung up on me after telling me I'm an idiot that cant read. I would never take my car there if I was anyone!! I would not have been there if it weren't for trying to spend my loyalty gift card they gave tdi owners. I had a customer a week or so ago that had a lot of work done with them, and was having trouble so she stopped in to have us take a peak real quick. There was 3 bolts holding the transmission on, one of which was the wrong bolt and was cross threaded into the transmission. The oil leak the "FIXED" was pouring oil out. This 5-6 hour job she had done she waited for and only took just under 2 hours. The new rear main seal has to sit for at least 4 hours before starting the motor once installed. These guys clearly don't know their way around Volkswagens! RUN AWAY!! there are terror stories all over the place about this horrible dealership! Next step is talking to a lawyer and going after them for the full $3200 in damages that they said it would originally cost. They will not be fixing the issue as I would be too scared they would mess ny car up more, or do some crap to it where i have problems in the future. The parts guy that forced my hatch open was Jim Rexrode and the salesman that forced it a second time was Mike Groland. Gino told me more about the 2013 Passat SE in 30 minute compared to the 2 weeks I spent with Volkswagen of OP. What really convenience me to cancel my deal with the other guys is that Gino was dedicated to telling me what Tom Bush could do for me rather than talking down on V of OP. Believe it or not, they tried for 2 weeks to get me the car of my dreams, I wanted Black, leather seat, touch screen radio. I was very particular of what I wanted and unfortunately, they could not do it but…..“Gino”, made it happen within 24 hours! I can’t began to explain how he did it. All I can say is, it was truly a pleasure working with him and his efforts on helping me get my car! He explained everything to me and made sure that I was happy with my selection with no pressure, I was relaxed and fully aware of what was going on. This is not something Gino was trained for, he attained this kind of compassion and kindness already. Tom Bush just gave him the opportunity to share it with us on for car buying experience! Frankly, the other Volkswagens in town did not work with me and my budget––it was basically their way of the highway––but clearly things are different at Tom Bush Volkswagen.
