In July, I purchased a new 2022 Chevrolet 3500 truck from Terry Labonte Chevrolet in Greensboro NC. My credit score is approximately 800, so I was confident I was going to get an excellent interest rate by a Terry Labonte Chevrolet in Greensboro NC. My credit score is approximately 800, so I was confident I was going to get an excellent interest rate by a single lender. Which is why I instructed the finance office to only shoot my credit to one lender. (I don’t like multiple inquires on my credit report). The finance Officer informs me that it was company policy to run ALL credit apps thru Ally Financial first. He said that although Ally may not give the lowest rate, it is Terry Labonte’s policy that every credit app goes to them…. Then if I like, I can choose another lender. I remember wishing I had just gotten a pre-approval at my bank. But I was confident the rate should come in around 2 - 3 percent. I was stunned when it came back at over 5%!! My credit is excellent!! (over 800) My debt to income ratio is around 20%! The finance Officer then offered to run my app thru another lender of my choosing. I declined! Again, I don’t need an additional inquiry! I signed the documents and decided to just pay this truck off within a year or less. People, in my opinion, this is a sham and a Monopoly! A dealer should never make an “under the table” agreement like this with a sole lender! There has got to be some law against this! It was this and a few other unethical things this dealership has exhibited that has helped me decide to take my business elsewhere! Each and every one of those things were clear indications that this dealership places profit over people. More
