Buying a first vehicle is a huge milestone, and I wanted to share our experience because there were some employees at Show Me Auto Mall who truly deserve recognition. Last Saturday, we made the 1.5-hour to share our experience because there were some employees at Show Me Auto Mall who truly deserve recognition. Last Saturday, we made the 1.5-hour drive to Harrisonville after my son spent days researching vehicles on CarGurus. He had already been pre-approved through our local credit union with very specific financing requirements, and as a parent who has made financial mistakes in the past, my only goal was to help him find a reliable vehicle that he could afford; not one that stretched our budget simply because his dad and I were co-signing. We were greeted by Xavier, who was new and being trained by sales manager Markus. From the beginning, Xavier took the time to get to know my son instead of just trying to sell him a car. He asked about his plans after high school, learned that he would be attending college for nursing while playing football, and genuinely seemed to care about helping him find something that would set him up for success. When our credit union was closed for the weekend, we attempted to finance through the dealership. Unfortunately, the finance process quickly shifted toward vehicles that my husband and I could qualify for as co-signers instead of vehicles my son could realistically afford. Xavier noticed this too. He spoke up, advocated for us, and wasn’t afraid to voice his concerns, even when it seemed uncomfortable. Markus also worked with us and explained that sometimes banks consider certain vehicles too risky, even when they’re less expensive. Rather than pressure us into a deal, Xavier encouraged us to wait until we could speak with our own credit union. That advice made all the difference. Our bank approved the exact vehicle my son wanted. Once financing moved forward, we discovered there was a $1,000 outside financing fee. While we felt that was excessive, our credit union agreed to cover it. Then we found an additional dealership add-on of nearly $2,000 that we were told was mandatory and would have to be paid out of pocket. Thankfully, Xavier and Markus advocated for us again, and that fee was ultimately removed. Unfortunately, that’s where the experience became disappointing. We still paid the outside financing fee, the dealership would not repair the daytime running lights or replace a missing interior door panel despite those items being discussed during the test drive, and after purchasing the vehicle, it wasn’t even sent home with a full tank of gas; we had to stop at Walmart across the street before making the 1.5-hour drive home. By the end of the transaction, the atmosphere felt very different. Once it became clear we weren’t agreeing to every add-on, it seemed like the dealership was simply ready for us to leave. Overall, this is a difficult review to write because the people made the experience very different from the policies. Xavier was exceptional, and Markus treated us fairly and fought for us when they didn’t have to. Without them, we absolutely would have walked away. They earned our appreciation and respect. The dealership itself, however, left us with mixed feelings because of the mandatory fees, unwillingness to complete relatively minor repairs that had been discussed, and the lack of attention to customer satisfaction at the end of the sale. If you’re shopping here, I’d absolutely recommend asking for Xavier. He genuinely cares about his customers and understands that buying a first vehicle is about helping someone build a solid financial future; not just making a sale. More
