Schaller Subaru responded

At the time of delivery, our manager found there was a typographical error on the title for this vehicle. The customer was offered the option of taking the car on a dealer plate while we worked on correcting the error with DMV or backing out of the deal. They chose to take the vehicle. After 3.5 weeks of working with the DMV, the prior lienholder and other state agencies we reached a higher level employee at DMV to inquire about the time it was taking. A few days later DMV informed us that the issue was finally resolved and the corrected title was mailed on July 17. It arrived at our dealership on July 21, 4 weeks and 3 days after the customer took delivery. When we contacted the customer to inform them we could now transfer their license plates and register the car, the customer demanded a refund of $2,000 for their hassle under the threat of hiring an attorney. We told the customer that we could either register the car and provide more reasonable compensation for their troubles or we would come retrieve the car and would refund their deposit minus the IRS mileage reimbursement rate for the miles added to the car by the customer who had been driving the car for one month with no vehicle issues. They refused to return the car that day and hung up the phone on our staff after saying they would be sending their attorney on Monday. On Monday, the customers arrived and we refunded 100% of their money. We did not charge them for the mileage. There was no attorney involved or present that we are aware of.
