I understand these folks frustration and wish the situation had been different. It is true that we have many high profile clients, however we have far more contractors, state workers,doctors,food service and a family of customers from all walks of life. The reality is that taking a deposit is a legally binding agreement. I had no choice in the matter. I only wish that they had taken the advice of their salesperson three or four days earlier when he asked them to leave a deposit as it was a unique vehicle. Often times, I think, customers believe that there is no danger of missing a vehicle but in reality it happens nearly a dozen times a month on average. Incidentally, it has happened to two of the " high profile clients" in my career as well. If they had left the deposit when asked the vehicle would have been theirs. When faced with the sad events I offered my condolences, subsequently I also had the vehicle they arrived in (a diesel super duty truck) filled with fuel; I coupled that with an offer to buy dinner. I hold no resentment for the omission of some of the facts as I understand the frustration. I wish that I could turn back time to that moment when they were asked to leave the deposit as I would have personally implored them to do so if I could. I am saddened by the reality that this will probably not be the last time this happens in my career. The law is clear and the act of taking a deposit is a binding agreement; this gives me little comfort as my customers pain is intolerable to me. Lann Rubin II General Manager Rhinebeck Ford
