Ramsey Chrysler Jeep Dodge

Recommended a major repair that wasn't needed I brought my Jeep in to this dealer mainly because it's close to my work. I asked them to check a few things, (a rattling noise from the rear and a l I brought my Jeep in to this dealer mainly because it's close to my work. I asked them to check a few things, (a rattling noise from the rear and a loose emergency brake) as well as do all my recalls. The service tech called me back and said they will check the whole car because they "get paid to fix things" - this was odd. They also informed me there is a $ 150 diagnostic fee if I just have them check the car and do no repairs) They completed the other repairs but said the suspension noise was that I needed 2 rear shocks and mounts at a cost of close to $700 - not covered by my factory or extended warranty. They also told me I needed a water pump which was fully covered by Jeep. I was skeptical from the start about the shocks, as this car only has 42,000 Miles on it. I've driven cars with bad shocks before and know what that feels like and so didn't expect this diagnosis. I paid for the emergency brake adjustment (at a cost of $ 250 - highway robbery if you ask me, but I was stuck because of the $ 150 diagnostic fee). Well after leaving the dealer the rattling noise at the rear was gone and I really focused on the drive quality (which was perfect) and I asked myself again if the shocks really needed replacement. On the way home I stopped at a local mechanic I've used many times and he told me what I already knew. He was 100% certain that the rear shocks and mounts were fine. All of this makes it very obvious the service department at Ramsey Jeep was attempting to push a repair that simply wasn't justified. There is something wrong with a dealer's service department that either 1) Can't diagnose rear shocks correctly, or 2) Tries to push them on customers when they aren't really needed. To be fair, I gave them an average on the quality of work (as the e-brake was correctly fixed) and average on customer service, since they were always friendly. I don't usually do surveys but when they sent me this survey I felt compelled to leave them feedback about how upsetting this whole experience was. I won't be going there again. If I need dealer service I'll drive somewhere else just to avoid this place. More
