Let me start by saying this review is ONLY for the dealership, because the Service and Parts departments here at Putnam Subaru are 5 Star! Unfortunately the dealiership is the absolute worst! I have b dealership, because the Service and Parts departments here at Putnam Subaru are 5 Star! Unfortunately the dealiership is the absolute worst! I have been coming here for over 20 years with what is now 3 different vehicle purchases. Twice I got cars here and has a miserable experience, the last time was in 2019 and I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt and try again in Oct. 2025. They recommended their customer loyalty specialist. This place prioritizes WASTING your time and trying to get you to take whatever car they have had on the lot logest, and not the car you actually want. I was quite clear when I walked in, with my VIP pricing form already approved for this dealership, the sticker of the car that I wanted, a copy of a competing dealership offer I already had including for my trade-in, AND a copy of my KBB trade-in offer already approved and still valid for 48 hrs from this exact dealership. I had my truecar pricing and eDealer price point as well as dealer invoice price for the car I wanted with exact package options, color and all per my VIP pricing deal. I literally handed all of that to the sales person, TOLD him I did not want to be messed with, I was waiting for my car next door in the service shop, and already had 2 prior terrible experiences with this dealership. I said match or beat the offer I already have at Carlson Subaru a few miles away, before my current vehicle is done with it's service appointment next door. A relatively SIMPLE task. Instead of sitting down and making me offers, he drove me around the lot and inventory trying to tell me he could put me in a Wilderness edition Outback for the same price as the Onyx edition I had wanted. I said I did not want the Wilderness edition, as I did not want to pay more nor have the higher gas mileage since I did NOT want the Onyx XT, just the regular edition. I said sure, go ahead and show me a deal, but then let's get back to the car I actually want that is currnet in transit on its way here in a few weeks. This person proceeded to make me an offer for my trade-in for $5,000 LESS then the printed offer I ALREADY had from their own online sales department with KBB, which I had already handed him. He quoted me the MSRP (like it was some sort of deal), forgetting I had already handed him my VIP pricing form. I had to send him back twice, while I laughed. Then I just got annoyed as he continued to waste my time w/offers (why woudl anyone want to trade-in, pay cash AND finance a car in one deal?) The guy actually ended up quoting me an amazing price for 5% below dealer invoice (yes, you heard that right) on Wilderness edition that had been on their lot >30 days. But then he lied to me saying the gas mileage was the same as the Onyx (he did not realize he had pulled up Onyx XT edition details instead of looking at the xxxx window sticker I had for the base Onyx edition.) After 2 hours I was exhausted and my car was ready from the service shop. We were about $1,000 off from where I wanted to be to actually agree to take the xxxx Wilderness edition I did not want, and the idiot floor manager had the nerve to say no to my face, even when I suggested they just cover my service charges that day or give me additional $1,000 trade-in value instead (which by the way was lower then what Carlson Subaru had already offere me for my trade-in). I EVEN offered to take $1,000 in service dept or accessories/parts credit instead, knowning that is what I would spend it on anyway. Still said no. I said fine, then I am going to go pick up my current car from the service shop, drive 2 exits down the freeway and purchase the Onyx edition I wanted from Carlsom Subaru that they already had onsite, and that's exactly what I did! And in less than 45 min. too! Do NOT waste your time at Putnam. in 15 years they have not changed and sales folks here do NOT listen to you (especially if you are female). Go to Carlson!!!! More
