Being a woman, I was apprehensive at the prospect of going to a dealership alone, and was concerned that the sales people were going to try to sell me something I didn't want. That wasn 't the case in dealing with Jack Schwartz and Danielle Sawyer at Potamkin Hyundai. I got a price from True Car, and quickly received a phone call from Jack, the general manager. He quoted me a great price, invited me to visit the dealership, and stayed true to his word. There was no pressure to come in and there were no harassing phone calls afterwards. After checking around and calling several other dealerships, I realized that I couldn't find a price as good as the one that Jack gave me, so I went to Potamkin fully expecting that the cost of the car would be more. That didn't happen at all, Jack stayed true to his word. I met with both Jack and then Danielle. She was extremely helpful in showing me all the details of the transaction and in going over the car with me. I couldn't recommend the dealership more. More
Low Stress Experience My husband and I recently decided to get a car. We started out at Long Island City Hyundai because it's close to where we live in Astoria. At first My husband and I recently decided to get a car. We started out at Long Island City Hyundai because it's close to where we live in Astoria. At first we were looking at leasing. Long story short - it was an absolutely horrible experience. The staff was smarmy and not trustworthy and there were LOTS of hidden fees/additions/price changes. So we decided to take our business elsewhere. Potamkin Hyundai was a much more positive experience. We got a TrueCar quote and Jack the General Manager called us right away to discuss. He was very open about the pricing and answered all of our questions. I called around to other dealerships but no one came close to the price Jack offered. He even sent over an invoice with a detailed breakdown of all the fees and the exact number that the out the door price would be. He held the car for us for a few days before we could get in to test drive without a deposit. I didn't feel pressured to come in to the dealership and was able to do the majority of negotiating by phone/email. After test driving we planned to come back the next day to purchase and Jack asked if we wanted to leave a deposit. When he saw that my husband and I weren't comfortable doing that, he said it was no problem at all and he'd keep the car on hold for us til the end of the next business day. I thought that was very fair and very nice of him to let us go without leaving a deposit. After the bad experience the first time, we were still hesitant that something would change when we actually went back to purchase the car. But to our surprise and relief, everything was as Jack at written out the day before. Not one single cent was added. Nelson was thorough in explaining the features of the car (which he did while all the DMV paperwork was being finalized). We were only there for about an hour which was a reasonable amount of time. We handed over our money, and walked away with a great deal on a great car. Also, if you live in Astoria this place is so easy to get to. It's right off the M60 bus or the 4-5-6 train. Took us less than 30 minutes travel time. More

He is fantastic! Great personality and customer service skills. My sales consultant Nelson was great as well he sat down and helped me through every part of the process. This is a 5 star dealership and i would do it again and again! More
Friendly, But Not Forthcoming I recently tried to purchase a new Hyundai Tucson from Potamkin Hyundai in Harlem. The sales team there is nice, but not very transparent. The sales manager, Jack, promises an easy buying experience, but I didn't find it to be that way at all. Except for one illegible text, they wouldn't give me written or detailed quotes on the car or even the financing, despite several requests. I came into the dealership in person twice, presented ID, filled out complete paperwork, and decided on a car I really wanted and applied for financing. They wouldn't give me any pricing details of my purchase unless in-person and then only verbally. My sales rep, Norman, who was quite affable, would only tell me, "I can't tell you any information until you come in, but you're going to love it." Upon return I didn't love it. It was like pulling teeth to get any detailed information. They got me a good interest rate, but didn't bother to mention they added a mandatory $4,000 extended warranty they claim was required by the financing company. I had to ask a number of questions to discover the $4,000 added, especially since I wanted to put $10,000 cash down on the car. It seems this dealership deliberately goes out of its way to keep you in the dark, refusing to give you much information about your own purchase you need to make an informed decision. The general manager cited privacy laws as the reason they couldn't give me any detailed information about my own loan or even give me blank copies of contracts I had to sign, but my lawyer says that privacy laws refer to disclosure of information to outside parties only and that the dealership doesn't want to give you much information to deter you from shopping for better pricing or financing. They refused to give me a detailed quote (other than the aforementioned illegible text), and shared only scant financing details with me about my own loan. I had no way to tell what I was paying for, much less compare it. They wouldn't provide even blank copies of paperwork such as purchase agreements in advance so I could review them to understand what I'd be signing. I found this a very poor way to do business and wouldn't recommend this dealership. Upon visiting other dealerships I was able to get much better treatment and they readily provided me clear information I needed to make an appropriate decision. It looks like I'm buying a new car this week! Thank you. More
