My car broke down in Long Island, and I had it towed to my usual service people at Volvo. Sal was so nice on the phone and really worked to get my car fixed. He even let me vent about the saga I had been my usual service people at Volvo. Sal was so nice on the phone and really worked to get my car fixed. Salesperson joe ameen was great. Business manager who processed payment transaction on 01-02-13 was rude, condescending and insufferable. We were late. She made us wait a very long time. All afternoon processed payment transaction on 01-02-13 was rude, condescending and insufferable. We were late. She made us wait a very long time. All afternoon in fact. She had a bad and unfriendly attitude. We only spent 29,000 which was a major purchase for us. She made the entire transaction seem distasteful and tawdry. The vehicle we purchased was a great buy but we will never purchase from this dealer again because of this experience. Did I mention that she charged us $80.00 more than was quoted in joe ameen's email summarizing total transaction cost. We have 7 company vehicles now. We replace one every year and have purchased over the Internet so far cars from from ct, ny & ma dealers. This is the only bad experience we have had so far. More
I took in my car for service as I had a check engine light come on, and a engine service required message on the dashboard. Before the message I realized the engine temperature gauge was erratic. When I light come on, and a engine service required message on the dashboard. Before the message I realized the engine temperature gauge was erratic. When I brought it in I self diagnosed the problem and mentioned to the service adviser that it possibly was due to the thermostat failing. It was indeed this problem. The work was done, I was not too happy about the part (thermostat assembly) dealership retail priced at $153.90 (before taxes), since you can order off a Volvo factory online (oem) parts site at $90(retail listed 139.91), or at the highest $104 price point, all way below the dealerships price for the part. I was going to hold off getting the work done, so that I could just order the parts and bring it in at a later date. However, when asked if I would be charged anything if I didn't get the work done, I was told I'd be charged for a $59-60 diagnostic fee (which goes against Volvo corporate (or most surrounding area Volvo dealership for that matter) Volvo Service For Life Program that offers 1 hour of free diagnostic for models made in the last 10 years, in this instance diagnostic took maybe 15 minutes). I decided to bite the bullet so to speak since if I didn't get the work done that day and ordered the part myself, the diagnostic fee would make the retail part price they were charging me ($153.90) at about the same price as the less expensive retail price online($90) and I come from Manhattan. Everything went fine, got my car back and the car operated back to normal. If you want to save money, however like this dealership, I would recommend the following if you ever need mechanical work done. (1) Go to a dealership that honors "Volvo for life" service program which as one benefit includes 1 hour of free diagnostic on check engine lights/or warning messages (the coverage only includes model year 2000 and newer Volvos except for 2000-2004 C70s, 2000-2003 S40s and 2000-2003 V50s). (2) After getting the diagnosis done/find out what is wrong with the car, ask the dealer/find out all necessary parts needed. (3) Order the parts online at an online volvo factory(oem) parts site (all are less expensive then dealership parts prices, and shop around since among them they vary from how much of a discount you get), you'll save 35-40% off parts and they are the same parts you get at your local dealership. Youre essentially getting the price of the parts before high markups from your local dealerships.(4)Then go to this dealership and have the work done. You will be surprised how much you will save. Lastly about my experience at this dealership, again I did not escape without incident at this dealership (this is only my second time coming to this dealership). The first time I had a service interval done which was fine, but I have a boost gauge installed which was working before I brought it in, and when I got it back it was not working and the power was cutting out of it. Which pretty much I was on my own with this, and had to fix myself since they take no fault. In any event, this time around I instructed to not wash my car when I initially dropped of my car. If anyone personally details/hand washes their car, you know you do nothing but hand wash yourself like I do, or have a quality professional hand wash your car, to protect your cars paint condition. They did not listen/internally their communication failed and the car wash washed (unknown to the service adviser). It was getting dark by the time of picked up my car but I noticed about 4 thin hairline surface scratches parallel to one another, two about 9 inches long ones on my door panel above the door knob which prompted me to do a quick inspection, and I came across two more hairline scratches on the top of my front bumper about 4 inches long . I can safely assume that the car is swirled and may have a few more of these hairline scratches. I showed the service adviser the hairline surface scratches and he stated that it wasn't possible to happen since the car went through a touch less wash. This response is adequate for maybe 95% of car owners, and the same people probably don't care about their cars paint condition, but I am not the average consumer. For all owners who care about your cars paint condition, when you hear that, you know that they failed you. It doesn't matter if your car is taken through a touchless wash, especially if you have caked on dirt (like my car was when brought in) a touchless wash will not remove all of the dirt off the car. It may appear clean, but if you wipe your finger on the cars paint you will notice a light film of dirt that still remains on parts of the car. This is where the problem starts, when you go through the touchless wash, and the workers take inexpensive towels (which also contribute to the problem) and wipe your car down/dry it, they will create swirls and/or thin hairline scratches like are now on my car since they are essentially rubbing any remaining film of dirt back and forth on your cars paint, along with swirls induced by inexpensive towels. Never take free car washes from any dealerships if you care about your cars paint condition. The service adviser stated that I can come by another time and they can put rubbing compound on the spots which was a nice gesture I guess (however you never start with compounds as it removes clearcoat and can introduce compound swirls in itself and should be followed by a polish). That still won't address the swirls over the entire car (which I wouldn't expect them to do or asking for). Furthermore, that still won't address the fact that I will have to take my time and money spent on car products to repolish the entire car again (I maintain my car and prep it before winter) to remove the swirls and/or hairline scratches. I don't understand why I cannot leave a dealership feeling completely satisfied, especially when I indicate simple instructions, there's always something. Maybe a 3rd time will be the charm? More
