My lease was up on my vehicle, and during the lease I had some credit problems and I was not sure that I would ever get another vehicle. Sean Robertson did everything possible for me to get another car. I some credit problems and I was not sure that I would ever get another vehicle. Sean Robertson did everything possible for me to get another car. I was treated fairly, even though my credit rating was low, he did not make me feel like a looser. I have had two leased vehicles with Mountain States Toyota, and I alway feel special there. The sales personal, and the service personal, make me feel like they are working for me. I believe,I will alway deal with Mountain States for my vehicles. More
I was looking to trade in my 2012 Toyota Tacoma for something a little more fuel efficient and with a lower payment, after scouring local classifieds in Rapid City, SD I realized I needed to search in something a little more fuel efficient and with a lower payment, after scouring local classifieds in Rapid City, SD I realized I needed to search in a bigger market. Having worked for a Toyota dealership in the past I knew the quality service they (usually) provide. I stumbled upon Mountain States Toyota I saw a nice 2006 VW Jetta TDI that I really liked, I sent an email and Lance contacted me first thing the next morning. That was the end of my pleasant experience. I filled out their trade in sheet with vin number and all the features of my truck, they said they would do $27,000, so I got the loan finalized, check in hand and started out the next day on the 800 mile round trip to Colorado. The morning I was set to arrive at the dealership I had my truck detailed from top to bottom at a local shop, inside and out the thing was spotless. I arrived at the dealership and found my salesman Mark. Mark was a friendly enough guy he had the car pulled up to the front of the dealership waiting for me to arrive which I was quite impressed with, we set off on our test drive making some small talk along the way. When we got back to the dealership I said well mark, here are my keys, let’s get this deal done. Mark disappeared for 20 minutes while we were left to roam the dealership, he comes back with an offer on my truck (forgive me if I’m off on this number) $25,400 clearly well short of what we had agreed upon before I had taken off work, invested $100’s in fuel, and the money spent on the hotel for the night. Their reasoning was that there was a small chip of paint missing off the back panel of the truck and it did not have alloy wheels (which I had told my internet rep Lance) we haggled back and forth and finally came to a stalemate over $300, (still $1,500 more then was originally agreed on) I told Mark if he could get me the $300 we had a deal, after offering to “get me my keys” so I could leave several times. I told him “look ive driven along ways on your word that we had a deal at this number, im going to be in Denver another 30 minutes, let me know if we can make this work” he told me that was unprofessional and that it was no way to conduct business. Excuse me, I didn’t come to your dealership with $15,000 of my hard earned money so I could get a lecture. After telling me he makes no commission and the usual dealership mumbojumbo we settled at $150. This is where the transaction goes from bad to worse. We finally get to sign the papers to buy the car, I pull out my check that was already premade out making it super easy for everyone involved and my credit card to make up the $1,206 difference. I made some small talk with Chris, I asked something about sales tax in Colorado VS my home state of South Dakota, he answered with some snide remark. Then he told me and I’m going to quote this or else it will lose some of its effect “Truthfully I wish you would have taken this deal back to South Dakota with you” WOW!!! In my personal life I work for a bank, if I told a customer to take their money somewhere else especially after investing so much time into the trip I would be fired on the spot no questions asked. I’ll be honest with you I wanted to pick my things and walk out of the dealership right there but I did love the car. then Chris hands me a bunch of papers to initial, I one by one went down the list initialing all the lines, and I asked him, “did I miss any?” to which he responds “ ooh I see you can follow directions” Ok so now your insulting your customers intelligence, they are the reason you have a job Chris, Having worked finance deals for a local Toyota dealership here in South Dakota I know that someone as rude, inconsiderate and for lack of a better word a total Jacka$$ does not deserve a position in life as well paying as that. By this point I was fuming mad but kept my composure. I gave Chris my credit card so he could charge me another $1206 and he gets up and asks me “is it ok if I put another $500 in my account” Chris, I wish you would have. Clearly you’re going to need that extra money when your position is inevitably terminated for the horrible customer service I got from you that day. Back on the lot I’m emptying out my truck of all my personal belongings while Mark was taking an NRA sticker out of the back window of the Jetta I had asked him to remove. after another half hour he comes back and lets me know he had a phone call with his sister he had to take, even though I had watched him walk around the lot and joke with other employees (probably about the amazing day he was having after getting the commission off the car) he eventually brought the car over and handed me the keys he then said “have a good trip” and walked back towards the building. I’ll be honest I was FURIOUS at this point not a hand shake, no thanks for doing business with us, nothing!!!! I moved all my belongings into the car and was set to drive away when I saw Mark walking back to us. He had forgotten to give us our registration back, so he hands it to me and shakes my hand, I had had enough I got out of my new car, shut the door, and asked mark if we could “take a walk” after venting some of my frustrations on Mark I felt much better on my 400 mile drive home until I thought to myself, I want to make sure others hear this story before making the same mistake I did. In the end it wasn’t the extra $1,206 dollars that bothers me, it wasn’t the 800 mile drive, what really bothers me is that atrocious customer service a received while all I was trying to do was buy a car, I came in with financing already done! What more of an easy deal is there? I don’t like to see anyone lose their job especially in a tough economy, but there are far better people out there suited for these two positions (salesman and finance). You can bet I’ve told at least 50 people this story, including my old friends at our local Toyota dealership. Thanks for the car, I really do love it. But I’ll never forget the horrible service I received last weekend. More
Doug was awesome! I have purchased a total of 6 cars in my life and this was by far the best experience! I never, ever felt pressured and always felt like I was being given honest information. My rating as listed above is specifically for Robert (sales) and Francois (financing and closing). Both of these guys were super friendly and had my best interests in mind. They were both very straigh (sales) and Francois (financing and closing). Both of these guys were super friendly and had my best interests in mind. They were both very straightforward, which I appreciated. I had worse experiences with other sales guys at Mountain States and at Stevenson Toyota. I recommend asking for Robert and Francois specifically to ensure a great car buying experience. Thanks, Robert and Francois! More
I had negotiated via e-mail with Jason Barnes the purchase price of a new 2013 Pruis v Two. He quoted me $25,195 + D&H and taxes. When I went to the dealership on 12/29/2012, he upped the price to $2 purchase price of a new 2013 Pruis v Two. He quoted me $25,195 + D&H and taxes. When I went to the dealership on 12/29/2012, he upped the price to $26,491. $1296 more than his e-mail quote. Additionally, I had a low mileage (6600 miles), mint condition, 2012 Prius v Two and a 2012 Prius c Two (with 1800 miles)for trade-in. He offered me $27,000 for the two cars. Stevinson Toyota East paid me $38,400 for my trade-ins. A whopping difference of $11,400! Don't shop at Mountain States Toyota unless you can spare a lot of money to lose. Shop at Stevinson Toyota if you value your hard earned bucks. Shame on you Jason Barnes! More
I went in for my 5000 mile service and had the absolute worst experience of my life. I had an appointment and waited for 25 minutes in the bay while three people who came after me were checked in before m worst experience of my life. I had an appointment and waited for 25 minutes in the bay while three people who came after me were checked in before me. I had a flat tire two days earlier where my sensor didn't work and Eric tried to convince me that nothing was wrong. Trena called me a week later to say there's nothing else they could do after I called Toyota to express my concern about driving with a faulty sensor in a 2012 4runner. Tim initially "pretended" to care before his true character came out when he asked everyone to no longer help me. I have the documentation of his rude emails when he tries to deny it. More
I wanted to trade in my 2008 Highlander for a newer model. I had been to a couple of other Toyota dealers that were way too pushy and not offering a fair price for my trade in or were not giving a fai model. I had been to a couple of other Toyota dealers that were way too pushy and not offering a fair price for my trade in or were not giving a fair price on the newer car. When I arrived at Mountain States, I worked with Josh Schultz and he was very knowledgeable and genuinely patient. Josh answered all of my questions, he also went as far as to tutor me through all of the added technology in the newer model and showed me how it synched up with my cell phone and other devices. I was even more surprised that he continued this support after the purchase was complete. I received follow up calls from him and he has received several questions from me as well. He responds quickly and never acts as if he is bothered, he only strives to help. I truly have to say, after buying several vehicles from various dealerships, this was definitely a different experience. I didn't leave feeling exhausted as if I had just went through a battle. I think the culture at Mountain States is definitely a pleasant surprise in regards to the car buying experience. I liked the fact that Josh was courteous and went out of his way to make sure I was satisfied with everything and continues to do so. I was given an excellent price on the new car and on my trade in as well as excellent customer service. I would definitely recommend this dealership. More
My wife and I went to Mountain States Toyota to look for some used 7 passenger SUV's. Keith Barnes was the salesperson that helped her, and he was very helpful and responsive. He was very professional and some used 7 passenger SUV's. Keith Barnes was the salesperson that helped her, and he was very helpful and responsive. He was very professional and not at all pushy. We felt very comfortable during the entire process. The vehicle that we wanted was being looked at by 2 other parties. I was still able to get a small discount, due to an earlier conversation 2 days prior with Keith. I did not ask for this discount, but since we talked about it previously, he got it anyway. When making the actual purchase I worked with Francios on the financing. I was already pre-approved through my credit union, but they were able to match. While I was discussing terms with my wife, Francios was trying to get me a better interest rate than what was already agreed upon. Working with Keith and Francios truly proved to me that the customer is the most important aspect, and not money. I will purchase more vehicles through Keith and this dealer! More
Robert DeGrassa was wonderful to work with. Very knowledgeable, and spent time with me for my needs. I have never had a good experience at a car dealership and I've bought a lot of cars. Jim was very knowledgeable and quickly located models that we wanted to see. He provided information on available options for each, but never pressured us toward a particular choice. When the model we selected, with the options we desired was not on Mountain States' lot, he did a search, located one elsewhere and then went to get it for us. We would encourage anyone looking to buy a Toyota of any kind to check with customer-friendly Mountain States Toyota first. Darrell & Ruth Wright, Aurora, Colorado More
