While my initial experience with the sales team was positive, significant issues emerged after the purchase that have completely changed my view of this dealership. Here’s a breakdown of my experience: Initial Interaction – Promising Start Upon arriving at the dealership, I was greeted by a sales representative named Noah, who was incredibly helpful. He had the truck ready for my inspection and addressed my concerns about a squeaking belt on the vehicle. After a test drive and basic checks, I decided to move forward with the purchase. Noah even arranged same-day repairs for the belt squeal, given I had traveled three hours to see the truck. At that moment, I left a positive review based on my experience that day. However, I later noticed the dealership incentivized reviews by offering a chance to win fuel cards, which may explain their unusually high ratings online. Post-Purchase Issues – Major Red Flags Shortly after purchasing the Tacoma, a check engine light appeared. I hoped it was a minor issue and took the truck to my trusted mechanic, who has over 20 years of experience in Michigan. After running diagnostics, the code (P0022) indicated a problem with the Variable Valve Timing solenoid. Upon further inspection, my mechanic discovered severe engine sludge clogging the sensor, as well as the oil filter. This indicated the oil hadn’t been changed in years, confirmed by the truck’s onboard settings, which showed the last oil change was in 2021—three years ago. Shockingly, the dealership later admitted they do not perform oil changes on vehicles before selling them and only top off fluids. Additional Repairs and Costs Due to the sludge’s severity, driving the truck another three hours to the dealership for repairs would have caused more harm. My mechanic performed the necessary services, including an oil change and sensor replacement, costing me $577. Despite this, the check engine code persisted, as the sludge likely caused the camshaft to fall out of timing. Poor Post-Sale Support When I informed MARSH Auto about the situation, they refused to reimburse the full repair costs. Instead, they offered a mere $120 for the replaced sensor—but only if I signed a nondisclosure agreement. This felt like a slap in the face after spending nearly $600 to fix issues that stemmed from the dealership’s lack of maintenance. I refused to sign away my rights for such a small amount. Final Thoughts While MARSH Auto’s prices may seem appealing, this experience highlights the risks of prioritizing cost over quality. Their lack of transparency, inadequate vehicle maintenance, and poor post-sale support have left me regretting my decision. If you’re considering buying from this dealership: Be prepared to inspect vehicles thoroughly, as basic maintenance like oil changes may have been neglected. Don’t rely on their reviews, as they incentivize five-star ratings through giveaways. Consider spending a bit more at a dealership that prioritizes customer satisfaction and quality over appearances.
