IF YOU ARE A SINGLE FEMALE, NATIVE AMERICAN AND ITS YOUR FIRST TIME BUYING A CAR. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! I have been looking to buy a newer used car for about 6 months. I have never bought a car on my own. FIRST TIME BUYING A CAR. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! I have been looking to buy a newer used car for about 6 months. I have never bought a car on my own. I am a single female with very little knowledge when it comes to buying a vehicle. I kept putting off buying a car because I was avoiding dealing with some xxxxxxx car salesman. One night I am searching for cars to buy. I really wanted an Acura TLX but hadn't really seen anything I LOVED. Then I came across a 2018 Acura TLX w/A-SPEC Pkg. AWD. It had everything I wanted. The red leather seats are what sold me! I found this listing on Cargurus. The dealership was 1.5 hours away. I wanted to go see this car. With a little bit of searching, I found there weren't any other cars like this around the area. I was excited to go look at it. I emailed Maita Honda about coming to see the car. In the morning (It was a Sunday) I got a response from JJ SCHWEDHELM (internet sales consultant) that I could come look at the car that day. So, a little backstory, I am Native American. I live on Indian Country so I am not subject to state sales tax when buying a vehicle. I know from talking to some of my other family members some car dealerships are resistant to do this because if done incorrectly the dealership would have to eat the cost of the mistake, so I do understand the resistance. In the town I live in most of my family buys from a dealership that deals with this particular situation. A family friend is the finance manager here so I went and talked to him hours before I went to see the car. So I could get the right info about the sales tax stuff. This family friend pulled up on the info on the car. (he knew I had never bought a vehicle and that I would be going alone) Sent me with all the documentation about the tax exemption. He even called and talked to JJ before I left explaining the situation. Also, offered to be in touch if they had any questions at all!! He gave me a little pep talk and sent me on my way. I got to Maita around 2pm. Met with JJ. The car was in the showroom so we went and talked about finance stuff before I test drove the car. As we sat down and we started go over the numbers and I brought up the sales tax stuff and was immediately hit with resistance about it. JJ went and talked to his GM multiple times (there are no walls so I was able hear pretty much every conversation about it.) Pretty much told this isn't something they can do here. Michael (can't remember his last name, not Michael Chen) from finance came over to talk to me about it and was more than willing to help us come to a conclusion. I provided him with a document from cdtfa.ca.gov and Michael was finally able to get the go ahead and we were able finish the finance stuff. Michael was beyond helpful and very friendly. That is the only reason I gave 1 star was because of the finance department. They both were beyond friendly and very helpful. From that moment on I couldn't helped but feel like JJ had a bit of a chip on his shoulder about the whole tax situation. I felt like I was being treated like I was trying to scam them or it was as if the sales tax was coming out of his commission. FYI you don't get commision on sales tax. Made no sense to me at all! So, all the financing went through. I knew I would not be taking the car home that day because it would need to be delivered to our tribal office. So, it would probably be a couple days. But I was totally fine with that. JJ said they would detail the car the following day and the car would probably be delivered Tuesday or Wednesday. I could not wait to be done working with JJ. After this situation was over, I was told I could have requested a different sales person and I really wish I would have. Also, if this exact car was anywhere else, I would have left and never came back here. So, the next day around 3pm I decide to reach out to JJ by email just to make sure everything was going ok. Make sure there was nothing else that I needed to do before delivery. I got an email reply fairly quickly saying he was with customers and he would get back to me after. I heard nothing from him that day. The next morning, I knew they opened up at 9 so I was expecting a reply sometime that morning. Around 11(now Tuesday) I still hadn't heard anything. I went to talk to my friend at the dealership in my town so he could look over all the finance stuff to be sure everything looked good. I told him I hadn't heard anything from JJ so he decided to give him a call. JJ answered and said he had just wrapped up my stuff 15 minutes prior and was going to be reaching out. Okay, great. So, I get JJ's cell number from my friend and send a little text that he can reach me by call or text on my phone. This was a little before noon. A couple hours go by and I still haven't heard a word from JJ or anyone at Maita. I'm getting more and more upset every minute that passes. I end up calling Maita and talking to the sales manager and explained the zero communication from JJ or anyone for that matter. Basically, made excuses that JJ was very busy with customers that day. It takes 2 seconds to send a text or an email, even if you're just acknowledging that you see my messages. As I was on the phone, he said Michael Chen was in his office and wanted to talk to me. He transferred me to Michael. Michael told me all they were waiting on was the funds transfer from the bank (because it was being delivered this needed be done) That was all I needed to hear!!! That tiny bit of communication was all I needed. So, I get off the phone and head back to work. About an hour later I get a call from my friend (at the dealership here in town) that JJ called him and said everything was set to go and funding had gone through. I can't believe he still hadn't called me!!! Not a word since the email reply on Monday. Now he's communicating with my friend about MY car purchase. My friend had to send him a text "You might want call Heather; she is feeling a little anxious about everything". So now he finally calls me after all this because my friend reminded him to. I just can't even believe this is actually happening. He tells me the car will be delivered tomorrow (Wednesday) and he would be in contact, don't really remember any sort of apology about zero communication but I could've just been too excited and mad at the same time to even pay any attention. All I could think of was I can't wait to get these keys and write a review about my experience. I tend to be a pretty quiet and a passive person. I let things slide a lot but this was ridiculous! Wednesday I finally got my keys and my car!!!I was so happy that I finally got my car and I could move on from that terrible situation. One last thing was I don't think the car was detailed either. Unless my version of a detail is a little different. I think all they did was vacuum and wash the outside. There were crumbs, dust and sticky cup holders. The windows had some sticky residue at the top so every time I rolled the windows it would make a loud popping sound. I found a movie ticket from December 2019 in the driver door. The blue tooth still had Robert Yang's (I believe this is an employee at Maita) name listed on the Bluetooth. Not a big deal just thought it was a little weird. I am beyond happy with my car. But the overall buying experience was exactly why I have waited so long to buy a car. I would not recommend anyone to buy a car here. Especially female, Native American and if it's your first time buying a car. More
