Imagine buying a GM Certified Chevrolet and then finding out two months later that the car you got was not GM Certified?? My terrible experience with Herb Chambers is something that everyone should be aw out two months later that the car you got was not GM Certified?? My terrible experience with Herb Chambers is something that everyone should be aware of when considering a purchase there. My complaints are pretty serious including 1)advertising issues, 2)contract issues, 3)a recall issue, and 4) the missing element of good faith after the sales process. Since Herb Chambers Chevrolet is using the GM logo and offering GM Certified cars, this is something General Motors should know about also. In August I was looking for a car and was greeted by a friendly and professional salesperson. Honestly, he was the best part of the experience. However, he was very new and the sales director, Mr. Chiavelli was often helping my salesperson throughout the sale. After going through the lot I test drove a car advertised as a GM Certified 2007 Chevrolet Impala LT. I thought the price was right. I decided to buy this car and shortly thereafter the problems started to crop up. I noticed shortly after the sale that if I was driving about 70 miles per hour and applied the brakes the steering wheel would shake. I work a lot of hours so the idea of bringing the car back to the dealership was disheartening. I was also dissatisfied that this problem wasn't addressed before the time of the sale. The vast majority of my driving is city driving, so I thought that this problem could be addressed during my first oil change with Herb Chambers. I never noticed the shaking unless I drove on the highway anyway. When I brought the car in for its first oil change I was told by an employee that the braking performance of the car I purchased does not match the car that I traded in and that I just need to get used to it. I believe it's fair to say that the employee made the assumption that the GM Certified car had decent brakes and the brakes were within the manufactures guidelines. I didn't want to fight over the issue and I guess I was convinced at that moment that the shaking might have been normal for the type of car that I purchased. The second oil change is where everything started to come to light. About 60 days into ownership of the vehicle I noticed that when I would stop then turn and accelerate there was a flexing sensation coming from the steering wheel. This flexing sensation was coupled with a creaking sound also. I thought it was odd, and I was upset that I'd have to bring the car back to get this problem rectified. So I made a call and setup a time for them to look at my car and get my second oil change. I dropped the car off on a Saturday and it was in the dealership all day. About an hour before closing time the Herb Chambers techs started to get to it. When I dropped the car off, I was hoping that it would be ready by the end of the day. However, I was told authoritatively by the tech working on the car that I'm not leaving with the car. I was a bit shocked at first and questioned the individual that worked behind the desk. He said that the brakes need to be replaced as well as the steering issue be resolved. As it turned out, after doing some subsequent research online, there was a recall on the steering knuckles which could break and cause steering loss. So we had two issues so far, 1) the brakes needed to be replaced and 2) I was driving a vehicle that had dangerous recall that wasn't resolved. The recall date was February 17th 2009 - many many months before the purchase of my car. Shouldn't the GM Certification process address worn-out brakes and recalls? As it turns out my car was not GM Certified. I was told by the employee that it was certified across the street. The dealership across the street was Herb Chambers Dodge. I said to the employee how can my car be GM Certified from a Dodge dealership? I didn't get a response. I was upset because Herb Chambers didn't pay attention to detail and I purchased a car that was never even looked at by a GM technician. At best this car fell through the cracks. The car was advertised as GM certified - it was not. I expected to have a safe car - it was not. So I decided to speak directly with the sales manager, Mr. Chiavelli. He apologized and while the car was in the shop they replaced the brake pads and changed the defective steering knuckle free of charge. Obviously, this is something that should have been done free of charge before the sale during the GM Certification process!!! To try to smooth things over I was given two free front tires on the car - approximate value $120.00 I was still not satisfied and I wanted out of this car. I told Mr. Chiavelli that we have a voidable contract since we didn't have a meeting of the minds at the time of the sale. This was due to the car being advertised as GM Certified and about 60 days later I discover it's not. I told him that I wanted to return the car for the price I paid for it and that I wanted to buy a different car on the lot. I saw a 2009 Buick Lucerne for about $20,000.00 and I was willing to pay the sticker price as long as the trade in price for the Impala was equal to the price paid about 60 days ago. He told me that he couldn't do that. I told him that we had a voidable contract and he told me we got you new brake pads, resurfaced your front rotors, changed the defective part and you have new front tires buddy. I was extremely angry because all of these things should have been done free before the sale anyway. These issues are typically addressed by the GM Certification process. That’s the reason why you pay more for a GM Certified – to avoid the headaches of buying a car with unknown history. I felt so upset because I was being forced to keep a car that I didn’t want, and I was willing to pay more for the other car to totally resolve the issues with the vehicle in question. Herb Chambers tried to stuff this car down my throat and we have a voidable contract!!! At that moment, I was even thinking about complaining to the Federal Trade Commission, since the FTC has the authority to void the contract and restore both parties to the state they were at before the sale of this 2007 Chevrolet Impala. Moreover, to add insult to injury, Herb Chambers is willing to take a car back with no questions asked for the first 30 days of ownership. Here I was willing to PAY MORE and PAY STICKER PRICE for a different car and he's telling me that it’s impossible because I'm 30 days late and I should have tried to return the car 30 days before. They weren't acting in good faith and I spent hours of my time dealing with this dealership in good faith and trying to get this car road worthy. So it’s obvious that the goal of Herb Chambers is to maximize their profit margin off every car they sell. In my case they paid sloppy attention to detail and valued their monetary goal above my well-being and satisfaction as a client. Under the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) we can find the definition of "merchantability." Goods must be at least of average quality, properly packaged and labeled, and fit for the ordinary purposes they are intended to serve. I was sold a non-GM Certified vehicle that was 1) not fit for sale or 2) fit for its intended purpose and 3) it was not properly labeled. I drove around for two months with extremely worn brakes and a defective steering knuckle that could have failed – which might have harmed me or worse. After my experience with Herb Chambers I can’t recommend them to anyone. In fact, if my friends or family members are looking for a car I’m forced by my conscious to tell them not to go to Herb Chambers. For all readers of my experience, I hope you heed my warning. More

He was very knowledgeable, kind, and most importantly he took his time and I did not just feel like another number or customer on a list. My daughter actually found him very amusing as well and he had no problem answering the few questions she had. (ofcourse due to the fact she had a little crush on him and thought he was cute). The dealership did not have the car in stock that I am looking for but as soon as one comes in, I know Mr. Stewart will followup with me. He is very thorough and amongst that very organized.
