Hampton Ford Hyundai responded

Scott- Thank you for your comments regarding myself personally and your comments about our dealership. Just for the record and to offer the general public another side to this story I would like to make the following observations: In your dealings with our Internet Manager (Anna) you had expressed a desire to purchase a new 2011 Explorer at a sustantially discounted price. I approved your price but insisted to our Internet Manager that we MUST see your trade before ANY price can be given. I greeted you when you arrived, and at this point you asked again for a further discount, quoting a number about $1000.00 under cost. I said that this was not possible. I then asked a member of my team to assist you. During your negotiations you stated that wanted $17,000.00 for you trade truck (06 with almost 100,000 miles) I explained at length through my team member that that was about 170% of its value and we could not get close to this number. I dont feel that it is my fault that you want such a number for your trade, and a more reasonable number would have perhaps extended negotiations. As you were adamant that I had reduced your trade price by 40% there seemed nowhere else to go. I am at a loss to understand your comment of reducing your trade as I never valued it from the beginning for this exact reason. As far as hitting a home run on your trade goes, I would have to sell your vehicle for 200% of its value to do that, and as we offer a fair price guarantee on our pre-owned vehicles (to prevent such an occurance) this was not possible or ethical. In closing, whilst you were here I was the only manager on duty and had my hands full with 5 other clients who were purchasing cars, so I'm sorry if you feel that you didnt get enough of my time but as stated I was already dealing with other folks. For what it is worth, and in my opinion a "deal" is made when two parties agree to a fair price. I don't think that your numbers represented this. Again, my apologies for any perceptions you have about wrong doing and I wish you all the best. Brian Hovelle GM
